Miley Cyrus’ 2009 hit “Party in the U.S.A.” played a like a three-minute, hooked-filled autobiography of the then-16-year-old singer, who moved from Nashville to Los Angeles to become a pop superstar. But the song about being a fish out of water in Hollywood was actually co-written by (and for) British singer Jessie J, who felt a little out of place coming from London to Los Angeles. Hit-maker Claude Kelley was also a co-writer on the song, and recalled its evolution, unlikely recording location and a fan-swarmed lunch break to Bart Herbison, executive director of Nashville Songwriters Association International.
