Xi made the remark while delivering a speech at the plenary session of the fourth Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia. Northeast Asian countries should boost mutual trust and safeguard regional peace and stability as they face the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, Xi said. Remarking that the population of Northeast Asia’s six countries accounts for 23 per cent of the global population and the region’s GDP accounts for 19 per cent of the global economy, Xi said that a united and stable Northeast Asia would meet the interests of all countries in the region. The region has ample energy and resources, world-class capacity in scientific research and bountiful capital and human resources, Xi said.
