Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has met with a series of key figures at Manchester United in recent weeks as he closes in on the permanent manager’s job. Co-owner Avram Glazer has become one of his biggest supporters – making increasingly regular trips to watch the Norwegian’s resurgent side. Although he is still to be officially offered the role, he has backing from all levels of the club, with the dressing room convinced it is a matter of time before his appointment is confirmed. Solskjaer lunched with Ed Woodward last month and is in regular dialogue with United’s executive vice chairman, as the pair draw up plans beyond the end of the season. The 46-year-old has also dined with former chief executive David Gill, who is still a board member and highly respected by the Glazers. Sir Alex Ferguson, meanwhile, has been invited to Solskjaer’s office at Carrington as the 1999 Treble-winning hero continues to cultivate the support of Old Trafford’s biggest influencers.
