Measles cases reached 695 across the U.S. this week.This officially makes it the highest number of cases since the disease was eliminated in 2000, health officials with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday (April 24).“This current outbreak is deeply troubling,” said CDC director Robert Redfield in a statement where he called on health care providers to assure their patients about the safety and efficacy of the measles vaccine. “We must work together as a nation to eliminate this disease once and for all.” Health officials have tied the high number of cases in 2019 to larger outbreaks in Washington State and New York State that began in late 2018.
