It’s time King Boris was cut down to size So Boris Johnson now sets himself above Parliament. Not even in opposition to it, but clearly above! He trumpets across the Channel that no way can our elected Members of Parliament interfere in any way with his no-deal Brexit. They are ciphers, he warns European leaders: they cannot stop Brexit. Yet some MPs believe they can stop it and are still working to stop it. They might not succeed, of course. But – just in case – we are now told No 10 has taken legal advice from attorney general Geoffrey Cox on the possibility of actually shutting down parliament from September. Vaunting the widely discredited Referendum won with a majority of something over 3% through blatant lies, a huge number of demonstrably false claims, and proven illegality, Johnson avers “that parliamentarians and politicians don’t get to choose which public votes they respect”. Apart from the vainglorious Boris, of course. Because poll after poll since has shown an increasing majority for Remain. Still he, and he alone, can choose his no-deal Brexit.
