Huge swathes of old Barne Barton have been left virtually abandoned in scenes that look like they’re straight out of a post apocalyptic horror movie. Rows of dormant multi-coloured flats covered in cage boards blocking every window and door now line the deepest parts of the north-west Plymouth quadrant. The estate – not far from where armed police stormed a street amid reports of a dramatic shooting over the August Bank Holiday – has been steadily piling out in a mass clear out of the post-war estate ahead of its mammoth regeneration. There’s now barely a soul left in old Clarion plots in the far western stretch of Poole Park Road and Wilkinson Road in particular – where barely five locals across a whole estate still remain. There’s literally more contractors than actual tenants now crawling the streets with vans busy hollowing the buildings out before the bulldozers make their way in.
