Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam has promised to prioritise housing and jobs to appease pro-democracy protesters in the Chinese-ruled city after three months of sometimes violent unrest. Lam said in a Facebook post late on Thursday her government would increase the supply of housing in the territory known for its expensive homes. The Chief Executive previously confessed she had caused ‘unforgivable havoc’ by igniting the crisis and would quit if she had a choice. The city’s premier women’s tennis competition, Hong Kong Open, and London West End production ‘Matilda the Musical’ have been called off over concerns of safety and disruptions from the demonstration. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam hopes new housing and job policies could help ease the city’s anti-government movement.
