Sierra Leone reintroduces tough measures to combat second wave of COVID-19

· January 26, 2021 ·

Video PlayerClose FREETOWN, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — Sierra Leone reintroduces a package of tough measures here on Monday, including a curfew and ban on nightclub activities, to combat the second wave of COVID-19, authorities confirmed. Interim National Coordinator of the National Coronavirus Response Center Kellie Hassan Conteh said the country’s capital Freetown happens to be badly hit by the virus, which has promoted the re-introduction of the prevention measures. According to the official, traveling restrictions were slammed on the country’s western area, and a national curfew was imposed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. In the meantime, authorities slammed a ban on nightclub activities, and all restaurants and bars were banned from operating during weekends. Conteh said spectators were not allowed to watch sporting activities and mandatory use of face masks in all public spaces is currently in force. “We will assess the situation after the two-week restrictions to see whether we should have an extension or not,” Conteh added. The country has recorded over 3,000 positive cases since March 2020. Enditem
