Kaul’s 4 for 26 – where he also bagged a hat-trick by dismissing Rohan Kadam, Aniruddha Joshi and Abhimanyu Mithun – ensured the defending champions were restricted to 125 for 8 in 20 overs. To add to Karnataka’s misery, Simran Singh then smashed an unbeaten 89 off 52 to ease Punjab to the win in 14.4 overs. Rohan Kadam’s top score of 32 was followed by Devdutt Padikkal’s 19 as all the Karnataka batsmen struggled to get going. Arshdeep Singh also played an important role with the ball, ending with figures of 4-0-18-2 to cap off a successful day at office. Brief scores: Karnataka 125/8 in 20 overs (Siddarth Kaul 4-26) lost to Punjab 127/1 in 14.4 overs (Simran Singh 89*) by nine wickets.
