NA Chairwoman: VN treasures ties with Japan
At a reception for Yukio Edano, Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Progressive Party of Japan (DPPJ) in Ha Noi on May 29, Chairwoman Ngan expressed her delight at the flourishing ties between the two nations, suggesting the Japanese official and other parliamentarians of the DPPJ, as well as those of the Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentarians Union (JPFPU) uphold their role in fostering the bilateral relationship and mutual understanding. Since then, the relations between Viet Nam and the international body have flourished. Agencies under the UN, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) have provided remarkable assistance for the Vietnamese Government's socio-economic development, especially on education, healthcare, child and mother protection, population, and family planning. DPM inspects Mekong Delta landslides
The Government leader was accompanied by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, leaders of the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Transport, the Office of the Government, and Ca Mau province. The MARD reported that seashore erosion and forest degradation in Mekong Delta provinces have occurred complicatedly and were on the rise at large scale. In some areas, the natural disasters seriously affected lives of local residents, infrastructure, and ecological environment. The region has 24 areas which are regularly and hardly hit by erosion with a total length of 147 kilometers at an average rate of 5-45 meters per year. Over the past time, the Government and the National Committee on Climate Change have issued a series of programs, projects, research projects to develop infrastructure and strengthen resilience capacity in response to climate change.
