US private payrolls rebounded in January – ADP

· February 3, 2021 ·

WASHINGTON: Hiring by U.S. private employers rebounded in January, though COVID-19 infections continued to soar, hurting operations in the leisure and hospitality industry. Private payrolls increased by 174,000 jobs last month, the ADP National Employment Report showed on Wednesday. Data for December was revised to show 78,000 jobs lost instead of the initially reported 123,000. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast private payrolls would rebound by 49,000 in January. January was the worst month of the coronavirus pandemic since it started in the United States, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, forcing consumers to hunker down. But authorities have started to ease restrictions on businesses. Job growth is expected to pick up in the spring as the boost from nearly US$900 billion in additional pandemic relief provided by the government in late December kicks in. President Joe Biden has unveiled a recovery plan worth US$1.9 trillion, though resistance … [Read more...] about US private payrolls rebounded in January – ADP

ADP Private Payroll Estimate Falls Short of Expectations

· March 3, 2021 ·

Private payrolls grew by less than expected in February, according to data released Wednesday. U.S. businesses added just 117,000 workers in February, data from payroll provider ADP indicate. Economists surveyed by Econoday had forecast job growth of 165,00. Other surveys had the forecast even higher. January’s figures were revised up to 195,000 from the initial estimate of 174,000. Manufacturing lost 14,000 jobs in the month, according to ADP. The services sector added 131,000. The figures indicate that the official nonfarm payrolls will grow by 210,000, according to ADP. That number will be released Friday. ADP had a rocky year last year as its estimates consistently failed to track job growth amid the chaos caused by the pandemic. February was a volatile month for the U.S. economy with the cold snap in the South West shutting down large parts of Texas and neighboring states, shuttering oil production facilities and many other businesses. … [Read more...] about ADP Private Payroll Estimate Falls Short of Expectations

Private payrolls grow disappointing 117,000: ADP

· March 3, 2021 ·

Private payrolls grew 117,000 in February according to ADP , a disappointing figure in the midst of an economic recovery, and well below what economists expected. With the exception of December, which saw a 75,000 decline in jobs, it was the slowest month of job growth since April, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the economy in full force. “The labor market continues to post a sluggish recovery across the board,” said Nela Richardson, ADP's chief economist. ADVERTISEMENT “We’re seeing large-sized companies increasingly feeling the effects of COVID-19, while job growth in the goods producing sector pauses." Jobs declined in the categories of manufacturing, construction, and information, but saw steady increases in education and health, leisure and hospitality, and trade, transportation and utilities. The service sector, Richardson said, had the best potential for recovery as the pandemic comes under control. The latest data comes as congressional Democrats work to … [Read more...] about Private payrolls grow disappointing 117,000: ADP

French consultant offers Tân Sơn Nhất airport expansion plans

· March 1, 2018 ·

Building a new terminal and more taxiways without building another runway and improving access to the airport are among the solutions suggested by a French consultancy for expanding HCM City’s Tân Sơn Nhất airport.— Photo vietnamnet.vn HCM CITY — Building a new terminal and more taxiways without building another runway and improving access to the airport are among the solutions suggested by a French consultancy for expanding HCM City’s Tân Sơn Nhất airport. These would help increase the airport’s capacity to 51 million passengers a year by 2025, ADP-I Engineering experts told a meeting held in Hà Nội on Tuesday. The company forecast that by 2025 passenger traffic through Tân Sơn Nhất would reach 51 million a year and cargo, nearly one million tonnes. The airport has two parallel runways only 365 metres apart, which is not efficient, they said. The limited taxiway system and insufficient tools to exploit airspace cap the airport’s capacity at the current 36 million … [Read more...] about French consultant offers Tân Sơn Nhất airport expansion plans

A generation that looks within for motivation

· June 24, 2017 ·

On a long flight back home, I had an aha moment. No one would ever take the pain of an 18-hour flight if they did not care much about the destination. It’s always about caring deeply about the cause, I figured. Whenever I explore the question of motivation, this thought pops up. It illustrates the idea of "intrinsic motivation", which could be defined as a feeling of accomplishment that wells up within an individual without any influence from external mediums. Now, with millennials filling up a considerable number of positions, it is critical to understand what motivates them. To make this generation contribute optimally, organisations have to make intrinsic motivation their ally. Millennials thrive on it. Organisations have to see how intrinsic motivation manifests among this generation. A recurrent theme Among this generation, more than any of the older generations, "meaningful work" is an oft-heard phrase. These young employees want to do something that enhances the meaning … [Read more...] about A generation that looks within for motivation
