BEST workers to march to Mantralaya on February 17 to demand merger of budgets
(This story was first published in the Times of India on January 20, 2021)Mumbai: BEST workers union announced on Wednesday that it will take a morcha of workers to Mantralaya on Febraury 17 to demand merger of the BEST budget with the BMC budget as this will be a solution to the financial problems faced by the undertaking. A memorandum will be submitted to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on that day, said union leader Shashank Rao. He further said that merging budgets would mean that the BMC, which is the parent body, will look after the financial needs of the transport and power supply wings of BEST. "This has been promised by the ruling Shiv Sena in the past, but has not been implemented. We have therefore decided to march to Mantralaya in February," he stated.
