The northern border province of Lao Cai is preparing for the Bac Ha Culture and Tourism Week to take place in the province’s Bac Ha Town and four surrounding communes of Bao Nhai, Coc Ly, Na Hoi and Ban Pho from May 30 to June 2. Like the Sapa Culture and Tourism Week which was held in the resort town of SaPa from April 30, the Bac Ha Tourism Week will include festivities that encourage tourists to explore the culture and lifestyle of the ethnic people. Visitors can participate in a food festival, many ethnic folk games, a horse race contest with some 50 horses, and music performances. Lao Cai to reach the target of receiving over 1 million tourist arrivals in 2013
(TITC) - According to the Lao Cai’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the first nine months of 2013, the province welcomed 956,290 tourist arrivals, up 13.9 percent compared to last year’s same period; of which 386,200 (up 19.6 percent) and 570,090 (up 6.14 percent) were international tourist arrivals and domestic tourist trippers, respectively. Total tourism receipts reached over VND 1,927 billion, including VND 815.8 billion from international tourists and VND 1,111 billion from domestic tourists. The province’s key destinations have received increasing visitors, such as Sa Pa attracting 487,034 tourist arrivals, achieving 67.7 percent of target for 2013, increasing by 0.53 percent over the same period of 2012; and Bac Ha receiving 102,500 tourist arrivals. Lao Cai attracts increased tourist numbers
In the first six months of 2012, Lao Cai Province received an estimated 606,660 tourists. The figures included 265,980 foreign tourists, a 26.6 percent increase compared with the same period last year. Revenue from tourism reached nearly VND1.13 trillion, equal to 62.65 percent of the yearly plan and up 53.29 percent compared with the same period last year. Apart from SaPa, many other places in Lao Cai have attracted large numbers of domestic and foreign tourists. Examples include Bac Ha White Plateau, hamlets and villages, temples and pagodas such as Bao Ha Temple, Co Tan An Temple and ThuongTemple. The Lao Cai Culture, Sports and Tourism Department predicted that the number of tourists to Lao Cai would increase in the coming period, especially when local festivals, cultural and sports events take place, for example the traditional horse race in Bac Ha which will take place from June 9-10. (TITC) - Located in the Northwest mountainous region with many unique values of majestic natural landscapes as well as specific cultural identities of ethnic groups, Lao Cai is one of pioneer provinces in developing community-based tourism associated with culture and eco tourism. With the motto “Culture is foundation and guideline to create strengths, tourism products and combine tourism exploitation with culture conservation of ethnic minorities to attract tourists”, since 2005, Lao Cai has implemented community-based tourism development project in 2 communes of Ban Ho and San Sa Ho (Sa Pa District). Lao Cai develops community tourism
Several tourist destinations in Lao Cai Province such as Cat Cat, Sin Chai, Ban Den, Trung Do, Ta Chai, Na Hoi, and Ban Pho have become more familiar to domestic and international travelers thanks to provincial community tourism development. Recognizing the benefit from developing community tourism, Lao Cai’s tourism industry piloted a rural community tourism model in villages of Cat Cat and Sin Chai in San Sa Ho Commune, Sapa District in 1998, which has gradually improved the lives of local people. However, the most significant changes in provincial community tourism have been seen since Lao Cai received funds from the Spanish Government via a project to strengthening Vietnam’s tourism industry as part of implementing the national tourism development strategy for the 2011-2020 period, with vision toward 2030, focusing on social responsibility policy.
