REUTERS: Leeds United have been fined 20,000 pounds (US$25,992) by the Football Association (FA) and received a warning about their future conduct for using pyrotechnic devices while celebrating their Championship triumph. Leeds defeated Derby County 3-1 at Pride Park on July 19 in their first game after being crowned champions of England's second-tier and celebrated by setting off coloured smoke pyrotechnics. Leeds were charged in August and on Wednesday an FA spokesperson confirmed on Twitter that the club had breached Rule E20 by "failing to ensure players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion". Leeds were initially fined 30,000 pounds but that was reduced due to the fact "no one was threatened or endangered by the conduct", "no one was injured", and there was "immediate admission and apology from the club". Leeds have the right to appeal the decision. EFL to appeal decision to clear Derby of breaching player valuation rules
REUTERS: The English Football League (EFL) said on Monday that it would appeal an independent disciplinary commission's decision to clear Championship side Derby County of breaching its rules regarding the valuation of players. The EFL had charged the second-tier club with violating its profit and sustainability rules as well as those governing player valuations. The commission dismissed both charges last month but did find that the wording of Derby's amortisation policy could have been clearer in its financial statements. "The EFL Board has determined that the League will appeal against the outcome of an independent disciplinary commission in respect of misconduct charges brought against Derby County," the ELF said in a statement https://www.efl.com/news/2020/september/efl-statement-derby-county. "The appeal is specific to the second charge only, which considered the club's policy regarding the amortisation of intangible assets." F1 teams warned not to subvert budget cap by stockpiling
PARIS: Formula One teams have been warned by the governing FIA not to subvert a budget cap due to be introduced in 2021 by stockpiling parts this year for future use, McLaren boss Zak Brown said on Saturday (Sep 12). The American told reporters that the International Automobile Federation had issued a note to the 10 teams on the subject. "The FIA are on top of what you can and can't do," he said ahead of the Tuscan Grand Prix at Italy's Ferrari-owned Mugello circuit. "Because next year's car has a lot of carry-over parts, there's been conversations around people stockpiling this year, with no budget cap, for next year to allow you to spend next year's money more on 2022. "So they are already on top of that. They actually issued another statement to the teams overnight on this particular issue." Brown said he was not aware of any teams that had stockpiled. He said the message from the FIA was essentially "don't run too fast because you might find we're going to change … [Read more...] about F1 teams warned not to subvert budget cap by stockpiling
Wall Street closes broadly higher on deal news, vaccine hopes
REUTERS: U.S. stocks ended sharply higher on Monday as signs of progress in developing a COVID-19 vaccine and a spurt of multibillion-dollar deals lifted investor optimism. Gains were broad-based, with all of the S&P 500 sectors ending in positive territory and real estate and technology leading gains. Drugmaker AstraZeneca resumed its British clinical trials of its COVID-19 vaccine, one of the most advanced in development. Also, Pfizer Inc rose 2.6per cent after the drugmaker and German biotech firm BioNTech SE proposed to expand their Phase 3 pivotal COVID-19 vaccine trial to about 44,000 participants. "The market loves anything with a vaccine because that is the ultimate solution here. And we'll see more and more headlines," on that going forward, said Tim Ghriskey, chief investment strategist at Inverness Counsel in New York. Merger-related news also lifted the market, and tech shares performed well but value-related sectors did as well, he said. That suggests … [Read more...] about Wall Street closes broadly higher on deal news, vaccine hopes
