Northumberland businesses see silver lining in cloud of COVID-19

· March 8, 2021 ·

Some may call it a gutsy move to open a new retail business in a rural village during a global pandemic. But for Hastings business owner Julie Whiteman, any trepidation she may have had has been superseded by the hearty welcome and steady flow of visitors to her home accents and cottage décor store. She started 2020 with gusto, planning to unveil the River’s Edge on Front early in the year. Whiteman and her husband did renovations throughout January, headed south for February and geared up for a March ribbon-cutting when they returned home. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic halted those plans. She didn’t open her doors until June. While the current state of the world is challenging and unpredictable for many small business owners, Whiteman and other Northumberland entrepreneurs have found a few silver linings amidst the cloud of COVID-19. For Cameron Green, who co-owns the Thirsty Goose in Port Hope, the pandemic has shed light on how much the Northumberland community cares … [Read more...] about Northumberland businesses see silver lining in cloud of COVID-19
