Russia paints ‘invasion stripes’ on assault vehicles as ‘100,000 troops prepare to gather at Ukraine border’

· April 14, 2021 ·

RUSSIAN forces gathering on Ukraine’s border have painted a mass of assault vehicles with “invasion stripes,” heightening fears of a full-on war breaking out. Russia will soon have a staggering assault force of 107,000 troops amassed at Ukraine’s border, revealed the Mirror today. The huge numbers of troops are far more than previously thought and emerged in documents leaked to the Mirror which include disturbing details on the Russian military power involved. Ukrainian military estimates of the advancing force include 1,300 battle tanks, 3,700 drones, 1,300 artillery and mortar units and 380 multiple launch rocket systems. The shocking numbers of troops alone represents at least 35,000 more Russian frontline troops more than the entire British Army following defence cuts, reported the Mirror. Yesterday in Astrakhan, 350 miles from the frontline, Russian BTR 80 armoured vehicles painted with invasion stripes were spotted heading in convoy to the railway station. … [Read more...] about Russia paints ‘invasion stripes’ on assault vehicles as ‘100,000 troops prepare to gather at Ukraine border’

The military junta has sought to quell mass protests with lethal force and a local monitoring group has verified at least 714 civilian deaths. YANGON: Anti-coup protesters in Myanmar sloshed red paint in the streets on Wednesday, symbolising the blood spilled and more than 700 lives lost in the brutal military crackdown. The country is barely functioning and the economy has stalled since the military seized power from civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Feb 1. The military junta has sought to quell mass protests with lethal force and a local monitoring group has verified at least 714 civilian deaths but warns the toll is likely to be even higher. This week is Myanmar's New Year festival of Thingyan holiday but normal festivities such as public water fights have been cancelled. Instead, protesters have been using Thingyan as a rallying point -- as bus shelters and pavements were sprayed red on Wednesday in cities and towns nationwide. Leftovers: In Vietnam’s Hue, yesterday’s rice is today’s hot menu item

· April 14, 2021 ·

Nowhere else in Vietnam serves up leftovers like Hue – the country’s ancient capital – where yesterday’s rice is the hottest item on the menu. In Hue’s city center, where tourists abound, bun bo Hue – a beef and vermicelli soup famous in the ancient capital – may be the most popular dish at local street stalls. But walk just a few minutes from the city’s famous and attractions and visitors will find themselves immersed in a culinary world centered around a rather peculiar ingredient: leftover rice, known in Vietnamese as com nguoi . For day laborers, the leftover rice served with bun bo Hue is integral, giving them the extra energy they need to work from dawn till noon. Arguably, Hue is a city which runs on yesterday’s rice. An unknown version of bun bo Hue Hue’s Gia Hoi Islet is a hotbed of bun bo stalls, with the area surrounding Bach Dang, Chi Lang, To Hien Thanh, Nguyen Du, and Chua Ong Streets doubling as the epicenter of the city’s traditional cooking … [Read more...] about Leftovers: In Vietnam’s Hue, yesterday’s rice is today’s hot menu item

· April 12, 2021 ·

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. — A Black man died after being shot by police in a Minneapolis suburb during a traffic stop and crashing his car several blocks away, sparking violent protests that lasted into the early hours Monday as officers in riot gear clashed with demonstrators and the man’s mother called for calm. The man was identified by family as 20-year-old Daunte Wright, and he died Sunday in a metropolitan area already on edge and midway through the trial of the first of four police officers charged in George Floyd’s death. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz tweeted he was praying for Wright’s family “as our state mourns another life of a Black man taken by law enforcement.” Speaking before the confrontation in Brooklyn Center between protesters and law enforcement, Daunte’s mother, Katie Wright, attempted to curb any unrest. “All the violence, if it keeps going it’s only going to be about the violence. We need it to be about why my son got shot for no reason,” she said to a crowd near … [Read more...] about Daunte Wright death in Minnesota traffic stop sparks unrest
