Binmen are filing reports on millions of families for rubbish and recycling 'offences'. Town hall chiefs have ordered them to rifle through domestic garbage and record where recycling is 'contaminated' with food or other waste. The dustmen are also told to report householders who put out their waste at the wrong time, overload their bins, leave the lids open or fail to use slop caddies. Binmen have been caught on camera emptying a recycling bin and one with household waste into the same lorry. Householders were stunned when they saw refuse collectors wheeling both sets of containers towards the truck. The images were posted on the morning of Thursday November 28, when the binmen, who usually call on Friday, turned up a day early. One person had time to grab their camera and took this image of a brown and a green bin being emptied into the vehicle. Monthly bin collections are planned by more councils in bid to save cash and force households to recycle
Councils across the country are planning to reduce bin collections to just one a month in a move affecting more than 2.5million people, sparking health fears. The scheme is being implemented in a bid to force households to recycle more - under European Union targets Britain must recycle at least half of all household waste by 2020. The figure is currently at 43 per cent. But the move, which has seen 18 councils moving or planning to move to three-weekly rubbish collections, has sparked outrage in the one million households which will be affected.
