Most businesses processing agricultural, forestry and fisheries products have failed to keep up with the market demandsUnderdeveloped agriculture, forestry and fisheries support industries According to Nguyen Manh Dung, the representative of the Department of Agro-forestry, Aquaculture and Salt Production under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, most domestic small-scale businesses in these sectors use backward technologies and equipment. For example, only 18 of nearly 600 rice processing businesses have annual capacity of more than 100,000 tonnes and 558 are located in provinces in the Mekong Delta; only 3.1 percent of tea processing businesses operate on a large scale and have daily capacity of more than 100 tonnes; while the majority of 625 seafood processing businesses are small-scaled. Mekong Delta provinces with large areas of winter-spring crops have an estimated average productivity of 9.2 million tonnes. — VNA/VNS Photo Van Khanh HA NOI — Viet Nam raked in US$7.65 billion from the export of agro-forestry and fishery products over the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 24.8 per cent, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported. Farm produce recorded the highest revenue at over $4.2 billion, up 31 per cent from the corresponding period last year, the Director of MARD’s Plantation Department, Trang Hieu Dung, said at a workshop on Thursday in Ha Noi. This was followed by seafood, earning $1.9 billion, a year-on-year rise of 16 per cent; and forest products at nearly $1.54 billion, up 21 per cent. The Hanoitimes - The export of agro-forestry and fisheries products has gradually recovered with Jan-July turnover of 15.9 billion USD, a 12.4 percent year-on-year increase. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), brighter forecast for the global economy in the third quarter is a good sign for Vietnamese agro-forestry and fishery products. Total revenue of this year expected to reach 26.5 billion USD. Except for rice and rubber, most export staples have seen rises in both volume and value. Agriculture products continued to be major earners, bringing home 8.9 billion USD. In the 7-month period, the country shipped abroad 1.2 million tonnes of coffee, earning 2.5 billion USD, up 31.6 percent and 25.4 percent, respectively, over the same period last year. Key markets of Vietnamese coffee are Germany and the US , which account for 12.9 percent and 12.4 percent of the total revenue, respectively.
