Danang Hi-Tech Park needs VND1.3 trillion Danang City is promoting investments into housing, training and service facilities in Danang Hi-Tech Park (DHTP) worth a combined VND1.268 trillion, according to the Danang Investment Promotion Agency. Director of the agency Le Canh Duong on March 26 said local and foreign firms could choose to invest through public-private partnerships (PPP), which include build-operate-transfer (BOT). In addition to seeking capital for these facilities, DHTP also wants to attract investors to a research and development center to assist operations of enterprises there. Such projects can be financed by official development assistance (ODA) capital, according to Doan Ngoc Hung Anh, deputy head of the DHTP management board. In particular, the housing development project comprises villas, adjoining houses and condominiums with an investment estimated at VND842 billion. Although Vietnam has stepped up exports to ASEAN, the country ran a trade deficit of US$6.51 billion with the region last year, according to data of the General Department of Vietnam Customs. Vietnam’s trade with other ASEAN countries totaled US$49.53 billion last year, up 19.6% over 2016 and accounting for 11.7% of the country’s total foreign trade. Export growth outpaced import growth but the country still incurred a yawning trade deficit with the region. The country exported US$21.51 billion worth of products to other Southeast Asian countries, growing 23.9% against the previous year, while imports grew by 16.4% year-on-year to US$28.02 billion. The surge in exports to ASEAN is thanks to higher export revenues from mobile phones and phone parts (up US$948 million), iron and steel products (up US$722 million), computers, electronic products and components (up US$488 million), crude oil (up US$378 million), and textiles-garments (up US$181 million). Central Highlands makes progress in new-style rural construction The number of recognised new-style rural communes in the Central Highlands has reached 95, equal to 15.83 percent of the total communes in the region, according to the Central Highlands Steering Committee's Standing Board. Since the beginning of this year, 34 communes in the five regional provinces - Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Dak Nong - have met criteria of a new-style rural area. The region also has one recognised new-style rural district - Don Duong district in Lam Dong province. As many as 78 communes in the region have completed between 15 and 18 criteria, 206 others 10 to 14 criteria and only 22 less than five criteria. Lam Dong takes the lead in the movement with 25 communes and one district getting the status. The Central Highlands has mobilised 90 trillion VND (4 billion USD) for building new-style rural areas. Binh Duong to host Lai Thieu Fruit Festival The first-ever Lai Thieu Fruit Festival is going to take place on June 8 -12 in Thuan An town in the southern province of Binh Duong. Around 100 booths will showcase handicraft products, traditional foods and assorted fresh fruits of the southeast and southwest region, such as mangosteen, durian, rambutan, pomelo and jackfruit at the festival. The event will also include a fruit arrangement contest, a don ca tai tu (Southern amateur music performance) and a workshop on how to attract visitors to Binh Duong province. The event aims to provide orchard owners and businesses with an opportunity to exchange their experiences in creating ecological tours to Lai Thieu orchard and develop the agricultural economy in Binh Duong province.
