Joining the Trump campaign, then, was a dramatic about-face — or it would’ve been, had Conway and Trump not shared so many qualities. Having cycled through his first campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, Trump was in the process of cycling through a second, the “campaign chairman” Paul Manafort, when Conway agreed to join Bannon to run the campaign in mid-August. At the time, there was talk of impending electoral disaster, particularly since Trump was struggling with the female electorate. “The fact that she was a woman coming into that position was an added boost,” Jason Miller, the campaign’s communications director, told me. Bannon and Conway were not just kindred anti-Establishment spirits, they also had a kind of shared cause; since the 2012 election, Conway had grown increasingly focused on immigration, arguing that the divide between leadership Republicans and grassroots conservatives on the issue was crippling the party. … [Read more...] about Kellyanne Conway Is the Real First Lady of Trump’s America

Former President Donald Trump signed a $900 billion relief package into law last year providing approximately $8.5 billion to California. Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state expects to receive $1 billion for child care assistance, which is nearly triple the $350 million the state received in the first relief package in the spring. The bill also includes $250 million for the federally funded early childhood education program Head Start, which has nearly 2,000 locations in California. … [Read more...] about How Biden’s new COVID executive orders compare to what California is already doing
As Kushner wired the city, he was also advancing his family’s business interests. In 2006, Jared negotiated the purchase of 666 Fifth Avenue for $1.8 billion, a record sum for a Manhattan office building at the time. The transaction was financed by an onerous amount of debt. The following year, the Kushner Companies liquidated its apartment portfolio for $1.9 billion. The shift was akin to trading a fleet of taxicabs for a single Formula 1 race car. “It wasn’t my idea to buy a New York building,” says Hammer, who was chairman of the company during Charlie’s absence. “That was really the idea of a very aggressive, ambitious young man.” The Fifth Avenue purchase quickly ran into problems. Kushner’s loans were premised on the assumption that office rents would rise; instead, the economy crashed. Vulture investors bought the debt, threatening foreclosure. Kushner felt besieged, with few friends and no leverage. But he fought his way out, … [Read more...] about Jared Kushner’s Rise to Unimaginable Power
In that situation, time would be tight. The substantive portion of the Senate trial is set to begin in two weeks, on February 9. Even if a legal challenge reaches the courts tomorrow, it would be a tight squeeze to get resolution before February 9. And if Trump (or another party raising a challenge) files a lawsuit even closer to February 9, things get even more difficult. If a lawsuit is pending on February 9, does the Senate hold off and await a court decision? Or does the Senate plow ahead in the absence of a final ruling? … [Read more...] about Could Trump derail his impeachment trial?
The FBI was able to find out Gundersen's name thanks to the jacket which showed the name of his high school—Byram Hills High School in North Castle Township, New York—and his former football jersey number. Tipsters reportedly helped confirm his identity by sending law enforcement officials multiple images of Gundersen wearing the same jacket elsewhere, including with Fox News personalities. … [Read more...] about FBI Identifies Pro-Trump Capitol Rioter Brian Gundersen By His High School Varsity Jacket
