The most UNSAFE cars you can buy today – and it’s not just Fiats that performed poorly in crash tests
FIAT cars are officially the most unsafe on the market today, with crash tester Euro NCAP handing its latest Panda model zero stars. The Italian brand's Punto was also given the unwanted title of the first car to be given no stars last year. Its popular 500 city car - cute as it may be - was also awarded just three stars in 2017, alongside the Doblo and 15 other models last year. But Fiat is not the only brand to be guilty of a poor safety rating, as the new Jeep Wrangler was handed just one star. The large off-roader provided little safety assist features, scoring just 32 per cent in that category. Other main sectors tested by Euro NCAP include safety for an adult, a child and for vulnerable road users.Top 5 most unsafe new cars Fiat Panda (2018) - 0 stars Fiat Punto (2017) - 0 stars Jeep Wrangler (2018 - 1 star Ford Mustang (2017) - 2 stars* Suzuki Jimny (2018) - 3 stars *The Mustang Roadster Sport was reassessed in 2017 and achieved 3 stars Muscle car, the Ford Mustang, was given … [Read more...] about The most UNSAFE cars you can buy today – and it’s not just Fiats that performed poorly in crash tests
Hidden Cost Of Driving In MA Is $64 Billion: Study
CAMBRIDGE, MA — When the average Massachusetts driver thinks about what it costs to own a car, they probably lists the obvious costs: car payments, insurance, gas and maintenance. But a study released this week by the Harvard Kennedy School says the costs are much higher than most people realize, and that driving in Massachusetts costs the average family about $14,000 per year — even if they don't own a car. That's because much of the $64.1 billion spent on driving in Massachusetts each year comes in the form of government spending, or that average family's tax dollars going to maintain roads, lost land value and the cost of deaths and injuries caused by car crashes. The study even factored in the cost of lost productivity from all those hours sitting in traffic (it's about $4.6 billion, give or take a few million).Policymakers said the study dispels the myth that only people who use public transit benefit from government transportation subsidies. "The diffusion of spending … [Read more...] about Hidden Cost Of Driving In MA Is $64 Billion: Study
A New Look at the Role of Apps in Distracted Teen Driving
Co-authored by Steve Schlozman As parents, we share some really big milestones with our children. There’s riding a bike for the first time, braving the first day of school, or marching off to sleep-away camp. Source: Ben Harding/iStock And, of course, there’s the hugely anxiety-provoking and incredibly exciting moment of earning a driver’s license. Let’s face it: Driving is different. Driving provokes hand wringing, nail-biting, and rampant parental insomnia. That first license can stoke some genuine parental terror. I’m not sure that the terror ever really ends. My (Gene’s) kids are “grown up,” some married, some with kids. But still, every time they drive home from Sunday dinner at our house, I have flashbacks to their high school days. At least now my parting request, “Please call me when you get home,” is not met with an eyeroll but instead, “Sure, Dad!” And nowadays, that reply is … [Read more...] about A New Look at the Role of Apps in Distracted Teen Driving
