SHANGHAI: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has told his staff it was time to bring the Tesla Semi commercial truck to "volume production", a message that coincides with a surge in the share price of rival clean truck-maker Nikola. Musk, in an email seen by Reuters on Wednesday (Jun 10), did not specify a time frame for ramping up production of the Semi. "Production of the battery and powertrain will take place at Giga Nevada," Musk wrote. Most of the other work will probably take place in other states, he wrote, without stating where. Musk has said Tesla is scouting other US states for a site to build a new factory, hinting that Texas could be a candidate. Oklahoma and other states are campaigning for the investment. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. When Musk unveiled the prototype of the futuristic, battery-powered Semi in 2017, he said the Class 8 truck would go into production by 2019. More recently, he said the Semi would go into volume production by 2021. … [Read more...] about Tesla to accelerate production of Semi trucks

When the engine in one of Via Mobility’s buses blew up last summer, the Boulder-based transportation service weighed whether to ditch the vehicle or replace the diesel engine. Via did the Boulder kind of thing — it recycled the bus. And it went electric. Now, The Hop, which circulates between downtown Boulder, the Twenty Ninth Street Mall and the University of Colorado campus, is even more noticeable for what it doesn’t do. “It’s quiet. It has no emissions,” said Frank Bruno, VIA CEO. “And it has a great wrap on the back that says it’s Boulder’s first electric bus.” Via Mobility Services, a nonprofit that contracts with the city of Boulder, Regional Transportation District and others to provide a range of services, wants to electrify more of its fleet. Bruno said Via decided to make the No.15 Hop electric after connecting at a conference with Lightning Systems , a Loveland company that designs and manufactures all-electric power trains for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. … [Read more...] about Colorado wants to spark move to electric vehicles in a big way — with buses, trucks, fleets
By Avik Chattopadhyay The spark On February 1, 2021, after the budget presentation, on being asked by a television reporter why there was no mention of electric mobility , Nitin Gadkari, the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, made an interesting remark. “The country needs to explore more self-sufficient and self-reliant methods of powering mobility to reduce our dependence on imports!” This was significant and one needs to read between the lines; especially if one couples the National Hydrogen Mission [NHM] that was announced by the Finance Minister. On February 8, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy told the media that the draft of NHM will be ready in two months. Link this with the fact that Delhi inducted Hydrogen-CNG buses in its fleet in October 2020. Fast forward a few weeks, and on February 23, the Indian Auto LPG Coalition [the industry body of auto LPG stakeholders] impressed upon the government to promote a few alternative clean energy … [Read more...] about Opinion: ‘Atmanirbhar’ alternatives to electric mobility!

State agencies and automobile manufacturers announced an agreement Monday on a proposal intended to get more electric vehicles on Colorado roads faster. State officials, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of Global Automakers will submit their joint proposal to the state Air Quality Control Commission, which will hold hearings starting Aug. 13 on a zero-emission vehicle rule. The proposed rule is based on California’s, which requires that a certain percentage of vehicles for sale in the state be electric. The Air Quality Control Commission will make the final decision on adopting California’s standard. Earlier this year, state officials and the auto groups started talking about alternative proposals, including making the Colorado program voluntary rather than mandatory. In June, state officials said they would concentrate on developing a mandatory standard after failing to reach a consensus. However, talks continued. The result is a proposal … [Read more...] about Hitting the gas on electric cars: That’s the goal of Colorado officials, automakers
