Stanjames share the best odds for the horse racing and Grand Prix over the Bank Holiday weekend
It's the calm before the storm as this weekend's fare is rather lower key in comparison to what takes place on the Epsom Downs next week. But there are still good betting opportunities and Royal Ascot clues at Haydock where the Sandy Lane Stakes at 3:45pm takes centre stage. Gifted Master is 6/4 favourite with StanJames.com and Hugo Palmer's charge is bidding for his sixth win in a row. Partnered by Pat Smullen, the son of Kodiac (horse, not jockey!) is currently 6/1 second favourite behind Acapulco (7/2) for the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot next month-a price that will shrink if winning easily here. Buratino steps back down to 6f in the same race which will definitely suit and we're top price 5/1 last season's Coventry winner can bring home the bacon. Speaking of top price, from 10am this morning, Stanjames.com will be paying best odds on all runners in the 2:50pm at Chester, a wide open race that currently sees Godolphin’s Best Of Times heading the market. Don’t … [Read more...] about Stanjames share the best odds for the horse racing and Grand Prix over the Bank Holiday weekend

"How close is Edwin Van der Sar to a new world record for consecutive clean sheets?" asks Ellis Roberts. Not very is the short answer, Ellis. Van der Sar's 13th consecutive league clean sheet for Manchester United at the weekend doesn't even take him into the top 10 best goalkeeping shut-outs. The Dutchman has gone 1,212 minutes without conceding, but he'll need another seven clean sheets for Sir Alex Ferguson's side to overhaul the current No1 No1. The Fifa-approved International Federation of Football History & Statistics lists the 10 best ever goalkeeping spells as follows: 1 Mazaropi (Vasco da Gama, Brazil) 1,816mins 2 Thabet El-Batal (National, Egypt) 1,442mins 3 Dany Verlinden (Club Brugge, Belgium) 1,390mins 4 José María Buljubasich (Universidad Católica Santiago, Argentina) 1,352mins 5 Thabet El-Batal (National, Egypt) 1,325mins 6 Essam El-Hadari (National, Egypt) 1,288mins 7 Abel Resino (Atlético Madrid, Spain) 1,275mins 8 Gaëtan Huard (Bordeaux, … [Read more...] about How close is Edwin Van der Sar to a new world record?
Stock market increasingly becoming a poor play on India’s economic story: Saurabh Mukherjea
Saurabh Mukherjea, Founder, Marcellus Investment Managers, is of the view that market has been historically poor in reading election results. He also believes there is very poor evidence that with different governments, there are changes in policy and reforms. In an interview with ET Markets, Mukherjea said Nifty and the Sensex are not performing the function of being the “glittering jewels,” the best the country has to offer in investment options, and the stock market itself faces challenges because the best growth opportunities are being taken up by the giant PE funds, which accentuates the issue. Edited excerpts: With elections around the corner, how do you feel the market could react in different scenarios -- a) NDA gets a clean majority or a close majority and forms the government or b)the current opposition forms the government with a majority or a close majority or c) it is a hung parliament? The whole notion of trying to guess how markets will read elections is a … [Read more...] about Stock market increasingly becoming a poor play on India’s economic story: Saurabh Mukherjea
