Le Giang Lam, an economics graduate from University of Cambridge, UK, argues that the Central Highland ethnic minorities' concept of poverty might be fundamentally different from ours. In a report to the National Assembly on March 22, former Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that although the poverty rate has fallen over the past five years, government policies are still ineffective in areas occupied by ethnic minorities. Viet Nam receives award in environmental photography A photograph by Do Tuyet Trinh has been selected as one of the best five at the Atkins CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year 2014 competition. The photographs, selected at the international showcase for the very best in environmental photography and film, will be on display at the Royal Geographical Society in London from June 23 to July 4, 2014. Works were selected through an open submission process: entries are judged on impact, composition, originality, creativity and technical ability. The Fishing Net Making in Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta that Trinh took in 2012 features women in fishing villages in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta. The work emphasises the effects of climate change and the annual unusual flooding occurring in the region. Entrepreneur Dinh Thi Thuc: Golden Rose in Ancestral Land With her effort and willpower, Dinh Thi Thuc, General Director of Tan Phong Joint Stock Company, has led her company through the toughest times and become an exemplary businesswoman of heroic Phu Tho land, which is also known as the ancestral land of Vietnam. When Tan Phong was established in 1993, it confronted enormous difficulties concerning capital, personnel and market.
