At the scene A passenger coach was heading from Sa Pa to Lao Cai when the accident occurred at 11:00 a.m. The vehicle crashed into a motorbike, numbered 24P6-4676 that was driving in the opposite direction on Km118, National Highway 4D. The horrific crash left the motorbike driver dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Chau A Mao, 17, residing in Chu Lin 1 village, Trung Chai commune, Sa Pa district. The coach, which at the time was carrying several passengers, was turned over in the incident and seriously damaged. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred on the coach. According to several sources, following the collision, the coach driver named as Nguyen Manh Hung, 55, residing in Ngoc Khanh ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi, left the scene along with the passengers in another vehicle. More than 1,500 people have been killed in traffic accidents in the first two months of 2018 in Vietnam, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety. In February, 726 people were killed and 1,169 others injured in 1,583 traffic accidents, which is a fall of 100, 313 and 180, respectively from the numbers of February 2017. DNA tests will be conducted on bodies of 13 people burned beyond recognition in a fatal accident involving two passenger buses and a truck, which happened yesterday in the south-central province of Binh Thuan. A coach of Phuong Trang passenger bus line was travelling from the central province of Quang Ngai to Ho Chi Minh City on National Highway 1 at around 4:15 am, when it collided into another passenger bus running in the opposite direction. Consequently, both buses burst into flame following the serious head-on collision. 11 passengers died on the spot in the horrific road accident and one died on the way to hospital. At least 40 people got injured in the accident. Bodies of dead people were kept carefully in the province General Hospital for DNA tests.
