Peter E. McCabe, president and CEO of GE Renewable Energy’s Onshore Wind In 2016, GE Renewable Energy entered into a collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to develop a minimum of 1,000 megawatts of new wind farms by 2025. Peter E. McCabe, president and CEO of GE Renewable Energy’s Onshore Wind, spoke with VIR’s Ngoc Mai about the co-operation with the Vietnamese government and MoIT, changes in market regulations, and the latest technology in wind power. Could you evaluate the progress of GE’s co-operation with MoIT on wind farm development? In May 2016, in the presence of former US President Barack Obama, we entered into a co-operation with MoIT to facilitate the master plan of developing a minimum of 1,000MW of new wind farms. Since then, we have been working closely with MoIT to draft a bankable PPA (power purchase agreement). The purpose of this task is to get international financiers to recognise our bankable PPA as the current ones … [Read more...] about Providing tailwind to Vietnamese power plants

Digital solutions aim to reduce power costs, boost performance, and lower emissions. GE’s Digital Power Plant for Steam delivers innovative solutions to coal plant operators, helping to increase performance and reduce costs GE’s Digital Power Plant for Steam helps plant operators make smarter decisions about how to optimally run their power plants. A coal plant is complex – with varying fuel types, fluctuating grid demand, aging facilities, and requires five times more equipment than a combined cycle power plant. All of these factors mean the job of a coal plant operator is far from simple, and more flexibility is required to ensure the plant achieves its best possible performance in terms of output, efficiency, and equipment reliability, while still comply with emissions limits. Adding to this complexity, the objectives of the operator might also change over time. For example, they may need to keep fuel consumption as low as possible and protect the life time … [Read more...] about The digital revolution transforms power plant
VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnamese officials disagree with experts about the danger that coal power plants could bring, saying that power plants are safe if necessary operation procedures are followed. The work by a research team from Harvard University on the possible impact on human health by the increased emissions from coal pointed out that 4,300 Vietnamese die young every year because of reasons related to coal power plants. The researchers warned that the coal emissions in Vietnam would increase three times by 2030, which would cause 25,000 deaths every year. The figures were put into discussion at the workshop on coal power plant development held by GreenID (Green Innovation and Development Center) representing VSEA (Vietnam Sustainable Energy Alliance) in late September 2015. However, Ngo Duc Lam, former director of the Technique Safety Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), said that it is necessary to consider the figures thoroughly, noting that these were … [Read more...] about How dangerous are coal power plants?
The Hanoitimes - Prime Minister stressed that the prerequisite is not adversely affecting the environment; but how to do so that "fishes can swim in sewage." Speaking at the province's investment promotion on August 27, the PM held that Ninh Thuan has high potential for growth thanks to its favourable location as well as natural and cultural conditions. At the mean time urging the south central province to give more specific policy commitments to win investors' confidence. However, he noted that the province ranks 42nd among 63 localities nationwide in provincial competitiveness index, which is behind many adjacent provinces. Ninh Thuan is also home to only about 2,000 businesses, far fewer than the country's average figure. PM Phuc suggested the province to increase the number of enterprises, while revising its strategic planning towards a green economy and sustainable growth. Ninh Thuan should also foster connections with other regional localities to create larger space for … [Read more...] about PM: How should do so that “fishes can swim in sewage” – Viet Nam – News
