Delta Assembly approves N22.7bn promissory note discount from Zenith Bank
By Festus Ahon DELTA State House of Assembly has passed a resolution approving the request by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to rectify a promissory note discounting facility of N22.7 billion, issued by the Federal Government to the state. Governor Okowa’s request was contained in a letter to the House read by the Speaker, Mr Sheriff Oborevwori, during plenary. Okowa, in the letter, said over the years, the state government reconstructed, rehabilitated and resurfaced several federal roads amounting to N76.4 billion. He said efforts were being made to recover the expended funds from the Federal Government through the presentation of claims to relevant Senate and House of Representatives committees and hence the Federal Government issued a promissory note in the sum of N22,695,917 to Delta State government. Global rating agency Standard & Poor’s ruling out any ratings upgrade for the country for a considerable period has reportedly irked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government whose chief economic adviser Arvind Subramaniam has drafted the Economic Survey document. RBI plans to collect information from ICICI Bank on loan to Videocon
The RBI, according to the source, wants details on the procedure followed for credit appraisal by the bank while giving loans to Videocon. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is planning to seek details from ICICI Bank on its Rs 3,200 crore loan exposure to the Videocon group. “The RBI will first ascertain the facts. We can expect some action after that,” said a source close to the development. The finance ministry had said on Monday that it was up to the RBI to take action in the ICICI Bank case. For the week, the Dow shed 6.9 percent, the S&P 500 erased 7.1 percent, and the Nasdaq declined 8.4 percent. The week saw the worst performance for the Dow and the Nasdaq since 2008, and the S&P 500's worst performance since 2011. Friday marked the heaviest day of volume since August of 2011. On the economic front, the U.S. economic growth was revised down to 3.4 percent in the third quarter, slower than previously estimated, said the Commerce Department on Friday.
