A man in the southern province of Bạc Liệu has been sentenced to six months in prison for falsifying single status certificates to separately marry two women when he has not even divorced from his first wife. Nguyễn Văn Thịnh, born in 1976, married his first wife in 2001 and they had two children. The couple got separated in 2009. In 2011, Thịnh met and fell in love with a woman named N.T.P.T, born in 1988, and wanted to marry her. Thịnh sought help from a contact who was able to provide false documents in the neighbouring province of Đồng Tháp, and paid him VNĐ2 million (US$86) for a fake single status certificate. According to Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Craft Villages Luu Duy Dan, there are more than 5,000 craft villages across the country, with the majority of which adopting less effective production models and facing production and sales difficulties. Craft products are poorly designed as craft producers remain largely dependent on complicated traditional patterns without considering practical functions, while craft designers lack creativity and market information. All these lead to an annual average craft export value of more or less than US$1.5 billion. That means that every of some 3.5 million craft workers generate only US$30 worth of value per capita per year, said handicraft expert Vu Hy Thieu. Construction on the US$9 billion Nghi Son refinery and petrochemical complex in Thanh Hoa province will begin very soon following the signing of an engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) contract. Other contractors include Chiyoda of Japan, GS E&C of the Republic of Korea, Technip France, and Technip Geoproduction of Malaysia. The project is invested by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN), Kuwait Petroleum International/Kuwait Petroleum Europe (KPI/KPE), Japan’s Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd. (IKC), and Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals Inc.(MIC).
