This Lawmaker Wants To Label Foreign White Supremacist Groups As “Terrorists.” But Some Of Them No Longer Exist.

· April 14, 2021 ·

Rep. Elissa Slotkin last week sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken asking him to take the unprecedented step of designating 13 extremist movements as foreign terrorist organizations, arguing that such a move “will help apply more stress to curtail these violent organizations’ and their leaders’ ability to operate their groups.” But of the 13 groups listed in her letter, which her office provided to BuzzFeed News, at least four are defunct, one is an American club founded in California that has splintered and rebranded, and another changed the name used in Slotkin’s letter six years ago when it became part of an allied nation’s national guard. “It was a great list — in 2018,” Matthew Feldman, director of the London-based Centre for Analysis of the Radical Right, told BuzzFeed News. “Every one of [the listed groups] was active. Every one was dangerous.” Feldman praised Slotkin’s efforts and the motivation behind the list, saying they are a step in the right direction. … [Read more...] about This Lawmaker Wants To Label Foreign White Supremacist Groups As “Terrorists.” But Some Of Them No Longer Exist.

8 stylish storage ideas for toys, books & the Kids’ room

· April 15, 2021 ·

Whether in the playroom (but we know the entire house is their playroom, really), toys, books and the like can really create chaos in your space. If you’re looking for stylish ways to keep your home clutter-free, keep scrolling. 1. Make them a part of the decor If you can’t beat ’em, showcase ’em. Be it open shelves or wall shelves, you can create a vignette of sorts with toys for the kids’ room as you would on a console or coffee table. Add balance with varying heights, and allow enough empty space in between so it looks styled, not cluttered. 2. Display books Childrens’ books often come with whimsical drawings and happy hues that can add to the ambience of the playroom and make it easy for little eyes to read. Create a wall shelf and display them gallery-style, and consider styling them with stuffed toys or wall hangings. 3. Use baskets There’s nothing quite as stylishly versatile as a basket when it comes to storage — be it for blankets, throws, stuffed … [Read more...] about 8 stylish storage ideas for toys, books & the Kids’ room

Indiana sends Houston to 4th straight loss, 132-124

· April 14, 2021 ·

HOUSTON - Caris LeVert scored 27 points, Domantas Sabonis added 22 and Malcolm Brogdon fell just short of a triple-double as the Indiana Pacers beat the Houston Rockets 132-124 on Wednesday night. LeVert was involved in the blockbuster January trade that sent James Harden from Houston to Brooklyn and Victor Oladipo from Indiana to Houston. While Oladipo struggled during his brief tenure in Houston, LeVert has starred with the Pacers, scoring at least 20 points in five of his last seven games. Sabonis was dominant in the paint, making 10 of 18 shots from the field while also grabbing 11 rebounds and adding seven assists. Brogdon fell one assist shy of his second career triple-double and his first since his rookie season in 2016-2017. He had 23 points, nine assists and 14 rebounds, one shy of his career high. “It’s just chemistry,” Brogdon said of the team’s latest improvements. “It’s guys learning how to play with each other and learning our strengths and weaknesses. When you … [Read more...] about Indiana sends Houston to 4th straight loss, 132-124

Biden’s revamped cancer moonshot doubles down on advancing cures

· April 14, 2021 ·

The race to put a man on the moon — “Moonshot 1.0” — was the crowning achievement of NASA’s Apollo program that catapulted Americans onto the lunar surface between 1969-1972. Its ultimate success came after years of incremental advances, offset by budget constraints, hardware glitches and a deadly explosion. The race to find cures for deadly cancers — heralded by the passage of the National Cancer Act in December, 1971 (as NASA crews gazed back at Earth), is likewise a marathon, characterized by gains and setbacks, and critically dependent upon public support. Since 1971, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the beachhead for coordinated scientific discovery has mightily supported biomedical researchers and, together with significant investment by industry, produced previously unimaginable breakthroughs, even as total victory against the disease has remained tantalizingly on the horizon.
