The Civil Aviation Administration has temporarily suspended the Vietnam Airlines pilots' license after the crew made a mistake and landed on an unopened runway in late April. Vietnam Airlines' plane landed on an unopened runway Both the American pilot and Vietnamese co-pilot are suspended indefinitely. Vietnam Airlines said they had also suspended the pilot and co-pilot for two months and will have suitable punishments for the pilots and others involved after reviewing the investigation results from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV). Since the aircraft was bought from France, the BEA French accident investigation bureau will also participate in the investigation in accordance with the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation. According to the CAAV, the flight crew made the mistake. About 15 minutes before landing, the autopilot was turned off for a manual landing. Because the plane was opposite of the sun, the pilot's vision was affected. … [Read more...] about Vietnam Airlines pilots licenses suspended after landing on wrong runway

Boeing says it will not deliver any aircraft to Iran

June 6, 2018 by vir Leave a Comment

Boeing will not deliver aircraft to Iran in light of US sanctions, effectively aborting a pair of large contracts with Iranian carriers, a Boeing spokesman said Wednesday (Jun 6). Boeing says it will not deliver any aircraft to Iran, (AFP/Getty Images) "We have not delivered any aircraft to Iran, and given we no longer have a license to sell to Iran at this time, we will not be delivering any aircraft," the Boeing spokesman said. "We did not factor the Iran orders into our order backlog either." The announcement follows President Donald Trump's decision last month to pull the United States out of the landmark 2015 nuclear accord between Iran and major powers that had cleared the way for a relaxation of sanctions on Iran. Boeing had previously said it would respect US policy on Iran and had pushed back the delivery dates on the Iran planes without commenting directly on deliveries. Boeing and Airbus were among the companies to receive US Treasury licenses to begin conducting … [Read more...] about Boeing says it will not deliver any aircraft to Iran

Qantas, SIA say no risk after cracks found in A380s

January 6, 2012 by robert Leave a Comment

Australian carrier Qantas and Singapore Airlines Friday reassured passengers there was no risk to safety after cracks were found on the wings of several A380 superjumbos, including some in their fleets. Qantas said the cracks had been found on one of its 10 A380s. "Minuscule cracking was found in the wing ribs of the Qantas A380 being repaired in Singapore," a Qantas spokeswoman said in a statement. "No immediate action is required by A380 operators because the cracking presents no risk whatsoever to flight safety." The cracking on the Qantas A380, which is barely visible to the naked eye and less than a centimetre long, is on the plane that suffered a mid-air engine explosion after take-off from Singapore in November 2010. "Investigations have found that the cracking is unrelated to the engine failure incident," the Qantas spokeswoman added. "It has now been repaired." Rival Singapore Airlines said it had also found cracks on the wings of two of its 14 A380 aircraft last year … [Read more...] about Qantas, SIA say no risk after cracks found in A380s

Engineer bucks public controversy, makes second homemade helicopter

September 24, 2016 by robert Leave a Comment

Viet Nam News Bùi Hiền, a 62-year-old engineer from Bình Dương Province, has suffered the slings and arrows of public opinion for daring to dream to build a helicopter. Some have praised him, but others have mocked his efforts. Hiền has built a second light chopper named Dream. A video of the aircraft hovering two metres above a field appeared on many online websites last week. The 390-kg chopper has a 171HP engine and consumes 15 litres of fuel per hour. Around 2.4m high, it can fly 200km an hour and carry 600 kilos of cargo. Hiền's first helicopter, built in 2012 called Bùi Hiền 1, could fly about one metre above ground. At that time, the brief flight caught the attention of local agencies and residents. Many people praised his talent, but others said the effort was unrealistic at a time when advanced technology was used by aircraft manufacturers. But Hiền disagrees. "The helicopter can operate smoothly now, so there's no need for adjustments. My biggest concern is whether … [Read more...] about Engineer bucks public controversy, makes second homemade helicopter
