The downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 highlights a fact long known to those watching the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine: You can't expect reliable information about it from officials or media, whether Russian, Ukrainian or Western. As a result, relatives of people killed on the plane must now subsist on a familiar diet of rumors and falsehoods -- often incredibly callous ones. Just now I have received information that terrorists – death-hunters were collecting not only cash money and jewelry of the crashed Boing died passengers but also the credit cards of the victims. Currently they might as well try to use them in Ukraine or pass them on to Russia. Mainstream Ukrainian media immediately picked up the allegation and spread it as straight news. "The Russian mercenaries are openly looting the crash site of the Malaysian Boeing: … [Read more...] about Flight MH17 victims’ bodies were looted. Or maybe not.
(VOVworld) - Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine by a Russian-made Buk missile, the Dutch Safety Board concluded on Tuesday in its final report on the crash last July that killed all 298 people on board, most of them Dutch. The Dutch-led inquiry did not identify who launched the missile but delineated a 320-square-kilometre area in eastern Ukraine from which the missile must have been fired. Tuesday's findings were swiftly dismissed by the Russian missile maker Almaz-Antey, which said its tests showed the jet was likely shot down by an outdated version of the BUK missile no longer used by Russia. … [Read more...] about Dutch reach no conclusion about who shot down flight MH17
Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by a missile fired from a launcher brought into Ukraine from Russia and located in a village held by pro-Russian rebels, international prosecutors said on Wednesday. The findings counter Moscow's suggestion that the passenger plane, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur in July 2014, was brought down by Ukraine's military rather than the separatists. All 298 people on board, most of them Dutch, were killed. The conclusions were based on thousands of wiretaps, photographs, witness statements and forensic tests during more than two years of inquiries into an incident which led to a sharp rise in tensions between Russia and the West. Among the key findings were: the plane was hit by a Russian-made Buk-9M38 missile; the missile was fired from the rebel-held village of Pervomaysk in eastern Ukraine; and the launcher was transported into Ukraine from Russia.
