In the 1990s, there was a strange trend where two movies about the same topic came out in the same year.  For example, Volcano and Dante’s Peak , both movies about killer volcanos, hit theaters in 1997.  The next year, in 1998, both Deep Impact and Armageddon were about heavenly bodies crashing into Earth. This trend perhaps reached its zenith the next year, in 1999, with two movies about the idea that we live inside a video-game-like world: The Matrix and The Thirteenth Floor . In the years since, the idea that we might be living inside an ultrarealistic simulation — known as the simulation hypothesis — has moved from pure science fiction to serious speculation among scientists, philosophers, and academics. Though you may be feeling a bit down thanks to the major Warner Bros. reshuffling that is currently happening due to the delay of No Time to Die , it's not all bad news. The Matrix 4 is now scheduled to hit theaters several months earlier than expected, moving from April 1, 2022, to Dec. 22, 2021. Rather perfectly, Neo, who has always been a sci-fi spiritual figure, will now return around Christmas. Moving The Matrix 4 forward comes amid a series of delays at the box office, with No Time to Die now scheduled for release on April 2, 2021. Several movies on the DC slate have also suffered push backs, including director Matt Reeves' The Batman , which has been moved from next year all the way to March 4, 2022. The highly anticipated sci-fi epic Dune , has been delayed almost a full year and will now not grace theaters until October 1st, 2021, the date previously held by The Batman . One such newcomer is Jessica Henwick says that The Matrix 4 will prove to be as influential as the one that kickstarted the series: "There are definitely moments on set where Yahya [Abdul-Mateen II] and I look at each other and we just go, The Matrix 4 . In a move that is sure to seem sacrilegious to some, Keanu Reeves has now cut off his long, John Wick style hair and in its place stands a very short buzzcut. Of course, the actor continues to look as breath-taking as ever, with the dramatic change in Reeves' do likely due to the upcoming sequel The Matrix 4 and potentially offering some clues as to the movie's direction. Keanu Reeves last sported a similar haircut all the way back in 1999 with the very first The Matrix , with his character, Neo AKA The One, awakening from the virtual world and into the real one like a newborn.
