Olympic hero Dame Kelly Holmes has revealed how she self-harmed. Speaking out to support an armed forces loneliness at Christmas campaign, the former middle distance runner and ex-Army sergeant told how she had “a massive breakdown” in 2003, just a year before her double-gold win in Athens. Kelly, 49, said: “I hated myself, I didn’t want to be here. I looked in the mirror, saw scissors, started to self-harm. I was in a really bad place. French strikes: How could they affect UK travellers?
British travellers face cancellations, delays and disruption getting to and from France during the next five days due to a general strike in the country.Industrial action over planned pension reforms is expected to cause problems for trains, airlines and French roads.Eurostar said 90 services will not run, while EasyJet has cancelled 70 flights and BA has cancelled more than a dozen.The Foreign Office has said journeys to the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Germany could also be affected.It has urged travellers to check with operators before beginning their journey.How are flights affected?Some air traffic controllers and Air France workers have said they will take part in the strike - in a bid to cause disruption to air travel. FLOOD alerts are in place across Britain as the Met Office warns of torrential rain and icy temperatures set to hit the country in the coming days. Thermometers could plunge as low as 4C at the start of next week, while flood warnings are in place in Scotland and across England. The Environment Agency has said that high levels on the River Witham could bring flooding across Lincolnshire. Floods are expected in the Low Barlings area with a risk to low-lying properties. Many of the rural villages north of Boston are also at risk after a breach of the river last week, with Agency staff currently managing levels using water pumps. Weather experts also expect high tides and spray to affect the seafront in Scarborough, with locals being warned to take care and avoid low-lying roads and footpaths along the coast.In the South, a flood warning is also in force in the South Winterbourne Valley west of Dorchester. Crown Prosecution Service set to consider criminal charges after Hillsborough inquests find 96 fans were unlawfully killed
The Crown Prosecution Service is set to consider whether any criminal charges should be brought following the Hillsborough inquests. This morning the jury reached a verdict that said the 96 fans were unlawfully killed. The CPS issued a statement indicating that it is set to consider whether or not press criminal charges in the wake of this morning's events. That decision cannot be made for potentially months however. It reads that the body will "formally consider whether any criminal charges should be brought against any individual or corporate body". Following this morning's hearing, Prime Minister David Cameron showed solidarity with the friends, families and campaigners of those connected with the disaster. He wrote on Twitter: "Landmark day as the Hillsborough inquest provides long overdue justice for the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the tragic disaster. UK weather forecast: ‘Coldest week of season’ as ‘freezing fog’ to cause travel chaos
Britain will shiver through 'one of the coldest weeks of the year' as it is hit by freezing fog and sub-zero conditions. Temperatures are expected to plunge to as low as -6C overnight in some parts, which could result in travel chaos for road, rail and air travellers. Met Office forecasters have put a yellow warning in place for tonight and early tomorrow over the threat of potentially dangerous 'freezing fog'. It reads: “Fog or freezing fog is likely to lead to some travel disruption on Monday night and Tuesday morning.” Weather experts say the condition will result in “slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible” as well as “a chance of delays or cancellations to flights”. This warning is in effect between 00.15am and 11am on Thursday across parts of the south-east. Air passengers could see lengthy delays to their journeys as airports put cold weather plans in place.
