NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with his Australian counterpart Linda Reynolds, focusing on taking forward the defence and security cooperation between the two countries. The two ministers also discussed possible areas of cooperation in the global fight against the coronavirus pandemic which has infected over 55 lakh people and killed 3.4 lakh globally. "Both ministers conveyed their commitment to take forward the initiatives of bilateral defence and security cooperation under the framework of the India-Australia strategic partnership," a statement by the defence ministry said. India and Australia have been ramping up cooperation in the maritime security sector with a focus on ensuring peace and security in the resource-rich Indo-Pacific region. New Delhi: Is a divorced woman entitled to her freedom fighter father's family pension like an unmarried or widowed daughter? A high court said "yes", while another ruled: "No. It is not a bounty." The Supreme Court has now agreed to settle the question. The matter was brought before the top court by Himachal Pradesh-resident Tulsi Devi (56), who has challenged a high court verdict of last year dismissing her plea for grant of freedom fighter family pension on the ground that there was no provision made in the rules. A bench of Justices U U Lalit, M M Shantanagoudar and Vineet Sharan, which has taken up the matter through video-conferencing, issued notice to the Centre and sought its response by July-end.
