· February 27, 2021 ·

GORILLA Glue girl Tessica Brown found lumps in her breasts just weeks after an operation to remove the adhesive from her hair. Brown's doctor found the lumps while doing a pre-surgery prep for breast augmentation earlier this week, according to her manager. Brown, known online as Gorilla Glue girl, rose to fame after a posting a TikTok video asking for help after she used the sticky adhesive to set her hair . The viral video led to Brown getting a celebrity management team, a merchandise line and even a sketch on Saturday Night Live . Her manager, Gina Rodriguez, told TMZ that Brown's doctor, Dr Michael Obeng, discovered the lumps while they were doing a prep for a "mommy makeover," which would include a breast lift and implants. Dr Obeng also performed a free operation on Brown to get the Gorilla Glue out of her hair. During the pre-surgery procedure, the doctor discovered a lump in each breast and quickly sent Brown to have the lumps removed. Nigeria: Gunmen release 27 teenage boys who were kidnapped from boarding school

· February 27, 2021 ·

Pupils kidnapped from a boarding school in Nigeria alongside members of their family and teachers have been released, an official has confirmed. All 42 people, including 27 teenage boys, 12 of their relatives and three staff members were freed on Saturday by gunmen who had been holding them hostage since 17 February. Niger state governor Abubakar Sani Bello tweeted to say they had "regained their freedom and been received by the Niger state government". After their release, boys were seen by a witness walking with armed security through a village, some struggling to stand and asking for water. A government official said the boys were aged between 15 and 18. Woman gets jail for hitting maid with ruler for not changing boy’s diapers

· August 19, 2020 ·

SINGAPORE: Soon after hiring a new domestic helper, a woman began abusing her, slapping her cheek and hitting her 11 times with a ruler when her son's diapers were not changed. The victim ran away from the flat and sought help from the Ministry of Manpower less than two months after starting this job, which was her first in Singapore. The employer, 34-year-old Meenashi Sanjay Kumar Singh, was sentenced on Wednesday (Aug 19) to four months' jail. She pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt to a maid, with two other charges taken into consideration. The court heard that the victim, 30-year-old Indonesian Sherley Medya, began working for Meenashi in early September 2018. Soon after the victim began her employment, Meenashi began abusing her physically, due to her perceived "poor performance". These actions form the charges taken into consideration - for an instance of abuse on a night in October 2018, when Meenashi slapped the victim's cheeks, pulled her … [Read more...] about Woman gets jail for hitting maid with ruler for not changing boy’s diapers

‘We didn’t get to say goodbye’: My dad’s death from Covid-19

· February 27, 2021 ·

Yvonne Paine’s father was a farmer and a force of life, invariably bouncing back from illness throughout his 90 years. Until he contracted Covid-19 and he slipped away, like so many others, without even the chance of a proper farewell. There was no funeral this time. My mother had been laid to rest in an unusually warm September in Ireland. I squinted at crowds who couldn’t fit inside the church, spilling out over the avenue and blotting out large doors. My mother loved the sun, used to bathe it in. The singing was deafening. That was 10 years ago. READ MORE: Good grief: how can we make it easier to talk about death? Prostate cancer: Survivors talk radiation, loose bowels and battling a disease more common than you think

· November 29, 2020 ·

SINGAPORE: During a regular medical check-up late last year, Ming (not his real name) received the first hint that his body was not as healthy as he thought it was. A blood test had showed his prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level was higher than normal, a symptom of prostate cancer. PSA is a substance produced by the prostate, a walnut-sized gland in the male reproductive system that also produces fluid which nourishes and transports sperm. Ming, 48, went for a series of scans and eventually a biopsy that confirmed the dreaded news. In February, he was diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer. "I still can recall the day when I actually received the news," Ming told CNA in a video call on Monday (Nov 23), in conjunction with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. "I was actually a bit upset. Even though I knew that my PSA was higher, I looked at my age, there's no history of prostate cancer in my family, and I do always exercise. So it was a bit hard to stomach when he broke the … [Read more...] about Prostate cancer: Survivors talk radiation, loose bowels and battling a disease more common than you think
