According to the National Meteorological and Hydrological Forecast Centre, temperatures in Hanoi and throughout the north have reached highs of 37 degree Celsius. By mid-day the temperature on the surface of roads in Hanoi exceeded 40 degree Celsius. With searing heat being accompanied by increased levels of UV rays, local people have been forced to put on sunglasses, masks, and gloves to protect their skin whilst commuting. At noon, local people and workers sought shelter from the sun in the cool shade of the city’s underpasses. Drivers were forced to hold back and spend a moment in the shade whilst waiting for traffic lights. Construction on Truong Chinh street, combined with traffic and the added heat created difficult conditions for people to travel in. The sunlight, poor-quality roads and added dust contribute to make drivers feel uncomfortable whilst travelling on Truong Chinh street. The heat wave is forecast last for several days. I signed up for a two-day one-night trek on this route that I’d seen all those beautiful pictures of.Located about 60 kilometers south of the Central Highlands' resort city Da Lat, it took about six hours to travel from Saigon to Ta Nang Commune in Lam Dong Province.There were almost 50 people who’d signed up, and I soon discovered that I was not the only one who’d never trekked.
