Police are carrying out a series of raids in the Great Thornton Street area today. Humberside Police have invited the Mail for exclusive access to the raids as they crackdown on antisocial behaviour in and around the high-rise flats. It follows stings carried out inside the tower block in March targeting gang-related crime, seizing cash, drugs and weapons. Police say violent out-of-town gangs have been infiltrating the estate by bribing vulnerable drug addicts and sex workers to give up their homes in exchange for drugs. A crash has blocked the A217 Brighton Road, Banstead, on Monday (May 7) just before 5pm. Congestion is also mounting on the B2221 Tattenham Way and the A2022 Winkworth Road in both directions at the Brighton Road, Banstead crossroads. Surrey Police confirmed there is an accident at the junction of the crossroads, blocking both carriageways. This is a different incident to the earlier one on the A217 Reigate Road at Hookwood. From penny farthings to BMX bikes - Cardiff city centre is full of cycles of all shapes and sizes with Car Free Day in full swing. Performers on roller skates are entertaining the crowds along with daredevil stunt riders and skillful skateboarders. More than three miles of roads in the city are closed to traffic, including Castle Street, North Road and Boulevard De Nantes. Most of the roads shut in the early hours and will remain closed to cars until 8pm today. Visitors are advised to get to the event on foot, by bike, or using public transport. Venues including Chapter Arts Centre and Sherman Theatre have recommended visitors plan ahead for their journeys. Local residents have commented on how "peaceful" the city's normally busy roads are. Surrey County Council's Ofsted report was released on Wednesday morning (May 16). The watchdog gave an overall rating of "inadequate" in its annual inspection of services for children in need of help and protection. This includes children in care, those experiencing parental neglect or domestic abuse and young care leavers. The report states SCC's leaders and elected members failed to act on findings and recommendations dating back to its 2014 report. Meanwhile its support for adopted children and progress of care leavers "requires improvement".
