A staggering 60 dogs are now stolen every week. Many spend the rest of their days churning out litters in miserable puppy farms as part of Britain’s £300 million dog business. In truly horrific cases, they are used as bait in dog fights. And of these missing dogs, only one in five is ever reunited with its owners. But, just as in the family favourite film A Dog’s Way Home — currently showing in cinemas and telling the fictional tale of a lost dog’s epic 400-mile journey to find its owners — sometimes there are real-life happy endings, too. Here, owners who had all but given up hope tell how, years after their beloved dogs were taken, they were reunited in extraordinary circumstances. How could the criminals be so cruel? Five-year-old cocker spaniel Bella was stolen from a farm in Braintree, Essex, in October 2015. She was reunited with her owner, HR co-ordinator Francesca Debnam-Sharp, 25, after being found, along with four other dogs, dumped … [Read more...] about Never give up hope if your pooch is pinched: Owners reveal how their dogs returned to them after going missing for YEARS (as new figures reveal 60 are stolen every week)

From Jurassic Bark to Wonderland in fur: Inside the controversial and colorful world of ‘creative grooming,’ where competitors spend thousands to outrageously style their dogs – and say they get DEATH THREATS from critics of the growing trend
People turn and stare as Cat Opson walks down the Las Vegas Strip, the slim California blonde holding a leash attached to a rainbow-colored animal whose species is initially quite difficult to discern. The fur of its nose is bright yellow and sculpted into a horn, and the rest of its body is divided into purple, green, red, yellow and blue sections, a plastic eye stuck onto its rump. This is her poodle, Kobe, a beloved pet well accustomed to the attention and curious looks of strangers. He spends much of his life being ‘creatively groomed’ by his owner, who spent months perfecting this look – themed ‘Jurassic Bark World’ - to enter him into a Las Vegas grooming competition. She dressed up in khakis and an explorer hat to match him, showing the judges how she’d fashioned his fur into a triceratops, brontosaurus and pterodactyl. She’s dejected as she walks through Sin City, however, because she failed to win a prize after all of her hard work and … [Read more...] about From Jurassic Bark to Wonderland in fur: Inside the controversial and colorful world of ‘creative grooming,’ where competitors spend thousands to outrageously style their dogs – and say they get DEATH THREATS from critics of the growing trend
My panic as I realised I was going BLIND at 50: SUSANNAH CONSTANTINE shares the terrifying drama as she fought to save her sight
About seven years ago, I started losing my sight. Not that I realised. I was a 50-year-old mum living in Sussex with three teenage children, and I didn’t have time to think about it. When my world started to look foggy, I just assumed I was getting more short-sighted, or long-sighted, wore grease-smeared glasses, had the wrong prescription or a dirty windscreen. I’d watch my children’s school sports matches and mistakenly cheer for the wrong team, think our side had lost the game and brace myself to tackle their disappointment. Then they’d come over, flushed with victory, and demand: ‘Did you see my catch/rounder/dribbling? Wasn’t it amazing?’ No I hadn’t seen it, even though I’d been paying close attention. Susannah Constantine (pictured) details having eye surgery, after being unexpectedly diagnosed with cataracts aged 55 But I’d say: ‘Yes, darling. Magnificent!’ Lies. At the opticians I felt rage and resentment … [Read more...] about My panic as I realised I was going BLIND at 50: SUSANNAH CONSTANTINE shares the terrifying drama as she fought to save her sight
