Fastest VPN in 2021: The speediest VPNs compared Watch Now ZDNet Recommends Best VPN services Best security keys Best antivirus software The fastest VPNs I recently got another letter from a reader that can serve as a great foundation for an article. Our reader asks: Is not the encryption provided by my browser on the data I exchange with an https: site sufficient to protect the data? My understanding has been that it is. If so, a VPN is not needed for this purpose. Furthermore if so, it's perfectly safe for me to exchange private data (say, account info with my bank or stock broker) over any public, open network. Of course, VPN's provide several other valuable functions, but as I understand it they do NOT provide any additional security to the actual data exchanged. VPN providers would likely not want to highlight this. There's a lot to unpack in our reader's letter. Let's dig into each question/statement one-by-one. executive … [Read more...] about Do I need a VPN if I have https? A reader question, answered

SIA trials app for Covid-19 test booking and check-in
SINGAPORE - Travellers flying with Singapore Airlines (SIA) will be able to view their Covid-19 test results and use them to check in at Changi Airport with a single app, potentially paving the way for travel without stay-home notices and quarantine. The software has been developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to make travel more seamless amid the pandemic. It works by integrating Covid-19 testing with passengers' boarding credentials. SIA is the world's first airline to use IATA's Travel Pass in a trial, which will begin with passengers flying from Singapore to London from March 15 to 28. If this proves a success, the app could could be rolled out globally. SIA said on Monday (March 8) that the trial could allow it to use the framework for its own SingaporeAir mobile app as early as mid-2021. "Participants will have full control over how their personal information is shared, as the data is stored locally in the mobile phone and not in any central … [Read more...] about SIA trials app for Covid-19 test booking and check-in
Pope Francis visits Iraqi Christians who suffered under ISIS
Pope Francis landed in northern Iraq on Sunday to cap his historic tour to the country with a visit to Christian communities that endured the brutality of a jihadist "caliphate". The heaviest deployment of security forces yet has been mobilised to protect the 84-year-old on what is perhaps his riskiest day in Iraq. Francis landed early on Sunday at the airport in the Kurdish regional capital of Arbil, targeted just a few weeks ago by a volley of rockets that killed two people. He held a brief meeting with regional president Nechirvan Barzani and his cousin, the prime minister Masrour Barzani. The pontiff will then travel by helicopter to lead a prayer "for the victims of the war" in the city of Mosul, an ancient crossroads overrun by the Islamic State group in 2014. "We believers cannot be silent when terrorism abuses religion," Francis said at an interfaith service Saturday, one of the many stops on the first-ever papal visit to the war-scarred country. Pope Francis' trip … [Read more...] about Pope Francis visits Iraqi Christians who suffered under ISIS

Air NZ to trial digital health passport for safer travel during Covid-19
Air New Zealand is to trial a digital health passport which aims to make international travel safer and easier during the Covid-19 pandemic. The national carrier will trial the digital “Travel Pass” app developed by International Air Transport Association on its Auckland-Sydney route in April. The app was launched by the airline lobby group in late 2020 and is being trialled by other airlines including Singapore Airlines and Emirates. The app allows travellers to securely store and present information related to Covid-19 tests, as well as their vaccination status. The travel industry hopes the Travel Pass will give governments the confidence to re-open borders, and passengers the confidence to travel internationally. ”Once borders re-open, travel is going to look very different, with customers’ health data needing to be verified at check-in,” said Air NZ chief digital officer Jennifer Sepull.
