Self driving car good or bad
British car production dropped by 12.9 percent in August year on year, the UK's Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported Thursday. It said the fall marked the third consecutive decrease, with the SMMT industry body attributing the development to model changeovers and preparations for new and tougher emissions rules. The tougher Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) became mandatory from the start of September, forcing many carmakers to halt deliveries and change plans regarding models that had yet to undergo recertification procedures. "The quieter summer months are often subject to fluctuations due to the variable timing and duration of annual maintenance and retooling shutdowns," SMMT CEO Mike Hawes added. Domestic car buyers hesitant "The instability was exacerbated in August, with the industry racing to recertify model ranges to meet tougher testing standards." Output in August stood at 89,254 vehicles, driven down by a nearly 40 percent … [Read more...] about UK car output down amid Brexit woes and production changes
When European drivers get into their cars as of Saturday (September 1), they may be surprised to learn that overnight their cherished vehicles have become about 20 percent less fuel-efficient and 20 percent more polluting than when they last turned the key. Read more: Study: Most EU carmakers report false CO2 emissions Not that many of them are expected to worry about their car's worse ecological footprint. But what those buying a car next week or later may find more difficult to contend with is a car tax bill that could be up to 70 percent higher than for an identical car bought, say, last week or earlier. That's the figure calculated by the German ADAC motorists' association for Volkswagen's VW up! The GTI model, whose annual taxes are set to rise from €50 ($58) per year to €85 in Germany on an overnight increase in its emissions from 110 grams per kilometer (g/km) to 128g/km. How come? Well, the car you own after September 1 is obviously still … [Read more...] about EU car buyers foot the bill of new emissions test
ALL new cars will be fitted with breathalysers by 2022 to stop drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel. Drivers will soon be forced to blow into the devices before they can start their engines, as a part of a recent ruling. The European Council voted in March to introduce the legislation in a desperate bid to cut the number of deadly accidents involving drink drivers, but it was rubber stamped last week. Britain is expected to also approve the measures after the Government said it planned to mirror the EU rules after Brexit.New models on the road will be forced to have the technology by mid-2022, while existing vehicles will have to implement it by 2024. However, it's not known how the system would be put into practice on the road. What is the drink driving limit in the UK? While the drink-drive limit is the same for everyone, how it influences you behind the wheel changes. There’s no foolproof system where you can safely have one pint or one large glass of wine and … [Read more...] about All new cars to be fitted with breathalysers and speed limiters by 2022 after EU decision
Seriously, I’m asking, because I don’t know the answer. It’s not that the jokes aren’t funny—some of them were super funny, although last night’s series premiere was definitely hit and miss. It’s more that this whole concept is just wrong for the freaking Muppets. And then there’s Miss Piggy. Sigh. Let’s back up a bit. The Muppets mean different things to different people, because they’ve been around for so many decades at this point. These fuzzy puppets, which include talking animals as well as humans and odd creatures, are a mainstay of the children’s show Sesame Street. But they also starred in The Muppet Show, an off-kilter Vaudeville variety show in the late 1970s, where they did weird skits like “Pigs in Space.” And they’ve had a long and extremely variable movie career, with amazing highs (The Muppet Movie, The Muppets) and lows (the 1990s).
