After the opening day of a Sheffield Shield match was suspended due to concerns over the dangerous Melbourne Cricket Ground pitch, Cricket Australia has assured that they would do every possible effort to make sure that the best wicket is used when the national side play the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. Earlier on Saturday, the first day's play of the clash between Victoria and Western Australia was abandoned in the 40th over after the players of both sides agreed that the MCG pitch was too unsafe to continue. The decision was taken after the umpires noticed that the pitch was too soft and the ball is creating divots, leading to the dangerously uneven bounce and forcing Western Australia's batsmen to endure numerous body blows. With an aim to resume the match on time on Sunday, the umpires decided to call off the day's play with Western Australia standing at 89 for three after being asked to bat. Though the suspension had raised concerns as to how the pitch would perform during Boxing … [Read more...] about Cricket Australia allays concerns over Boxing Day Test despite dangerous MCG pitch

Yuzvendra Chahal calls Rohit Sharma ‘GOAT’ after HITMAN’s 1st ton as Test opener
NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma was the point of discussion in Indian cricket after he was picked in the playing XI for the first Test against South Africa as an opener. While many felt it was a wrong move, some of the pundits also supported his elevation. And Rohit reposed the faith they showed in him by driving, cutting and flicking his way to his maiden hundred as an opener on Wednesday to silence those who had questioned his technique against the red cherry. Meanwhile, netizens also lauded Rohit's effort, who was batting on 115 when bad light stopped play on the first day in Visakhapatnam. Posting a picture of the opener, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal wrote: "Real G.O.A.T". 5 players who could shine in the Cricket World Cup
Five players to watch in the Cricket World Cup starting on Thursday: VIRAT KOHLI (India) He’s the best batsman in the world and undoubtedly cricket’s biggest star. Now Virat Kohli is aiming to underline his status as one of the game’s modern greats by winning the World Cup for the second time with India. Kohli is the active player with the highest average in one-day internationals (nearly 60) and has 41 ODI centuries, second only to India great Sachin Tendulkar (49). Test, ODI or Twenty20, Kohli excels in any format. Last year, he showed he could master English conditions by hitting two centuries and three half-centuries — including a 97 — in a brilliant five-match test series against England. That will surely give him confidence ahead of his return to English conditions. CHRIS GAYLE (West Indies) At 39 and approaching 300 ODIs, the powerful West Indies opener is playing his last World Cup. Can he leave the ODI format on a high? Gayle has the form to make … [Read more...] about 5 players who could shine in the Cricket World Cup
Virat Kohli gets brutally honest with his batting: ‘Young batsmen, don’t watch’
And Kohli did not shy away from the fact. "All the young batsmen watching, don't follow the first half of my innings. That was really bad and I was trying to hit too hard," Kohli said at the post-match presentation. IND V WI: 2ND T20I, DREAM11, PREVIEW | KL RAHUL ON FIELDING "It was just about keeping upto the game because I didn't want to put KL (Rahul) under pressure, so tried to strike at 140 at least, but I couldn't get going properly. But I started to get going after that over from Jason. "I analysed what went wrong and played accordingly in the second half of my innings. I was trying to hold shape and realised I am not a slogger, so tried to rely on my timing. "Whenever I play T20 cricket I am not someone who comes to the ground to hit the ball in the air to entertain the crowd. I focus on doing the job," said Kohli. The Indian skipper said how he would like to play a long innings irrespective of the format without changing his batting style. "I don't want to change my game too … [Read more...] about Virat Kohli gets brutally honest with his batting: ‘Young batsmen, don’t watch’
Expectations high for Kohli’s India at Cricket World Cup
Virat Kohli didn’t become the world’s best limited-overs batsman by accident. The ultra-competitive India captain is up for the contest every time he takes strike, and for every ball that is bowled while he’s in the field. “I take a lot of pride in performing for the team, making impact performances for the team in every game,” Kohli says. Not surprisingly, it is a loss rather than a win that has given Kohli the most motivation ahead of the Cricket World Cup. India had a 2-0 lead in a five-match ODI series at home against an Australia lineup missing its two biggest stars, but lost three straight games to the defending World Cup champion in March. “We learned a lot from that. We thought we would win at least one from the final three but we let it slip and Australia showed us what can happen if you really believe,” Kohli says. “They showed more passion and character than we did, and we know we need to bring that here. There’s no doubt … [Read more...] about Expectations high for Kohli’s India at Cricket World Cup
