This tiny Toronto garage was listed for $729,000. It sold in only three days

· March 4, 2021 ·

A rundown garage in Danforth Village sitting by itself on a 20-foot wide lot that was listed for $729,000 has sold after only three days on the market. Located on Greenwood Avenue, the dilapidated garage is wedged in between two homes — with only a parking spot located at the front. “I think when you first look at it you’re just kind of like, ‘Wow it’s just a garage,’” said Erica Reddy-Choquette, broker of record at Royal LePage Signature Realty Erica Reddy Brokerage. “But when you actually look, it is a 20 by 100 foot lot, which is actually a decent-sized lot for that neighbourhood.” The listing also detailed its closeness to the subway, schools, shops and other nearby amenities. Its annual property tax is set at $2,644.69. With no bedrooms or bathrooms, it was clear the property was listed for its land value on March 1. It sold — conditionally — on Thursday. Though the listing agent did not return calls to the Star, Jennifer Scaife, a sales representative at the Desmond … [Read more...] about This tiny Toronto garage was listed for $729,000. White House says closely tracking Microsoft’s emergency patch

· March 5, 2021 ·

The White House is closely tracking an emergency patch Microsoft Corp has released, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Thursday, after an unknown hacking group recently broke into organizations using a flaw in the company's mail server software. "We are closely tracking Microsoft's emergency patch for previously unknown vulnerabilities in Exchange Server software and reports of potential compromises of U.S. think tanks and defense industrial base entities," Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden's national security adviser, said on Twitter. "We encourage network owners to patch ASAP," he said. His tweet included a link to a notice by Microsoft of the security update. Microsoft's near-ubiquitous suite of products has been under scrutiny since the hack of SolarWinds Corp , a Texas-based software firm that served as a springboard for several intrusions across government and the private sector. In other cases, hackers took advantage of the way … [Read more...] about White House says closely tracking Microsoft’s emergency patch

Closed borders won’t quell New Zealand’s rising house prices

· March 5, 2021 ·

A collapse in net migration will create some breathing room for New Zealand’s white-hot housing market but don’t expect Waikato house prices to go stagnant, says a top economist. Infometrics senior economist Brad Olsen, speaking to Waikato Chamber of Commerce members on Friday, said the country’s economy has bounced back well from the pandemic shock, thanks in part to a resurgent Chinese economy. Given the disruptions caused by Covid-19, however, New Zealand businesses shouldn’t expect immigration to return to pre-pandemic levels any time soon. A drop in immigration numbers will have implications for businesses in terms of the make-up of their workforce – and could also impact the housing market. Tiny Townhouse Prototype Finds a Home in the Downtown Eastside

· March 5, 2021 ·

A Vancouver homebuilder has set up a tiny house in the Downtown Eastside to demonstrate how the simple building could be used as part of the solution to homelessness. Bryn Davidson designed the “tiny townhome” and built a prototype in December, after floating the idea of putting up to 10 of the structures on a typical residential lot to provide temporary housing for people who might otherwise be living in tents. After building the prototype, Davidson started looking for a place to set it up. Working with Sarah Blyth, the founder of the Overdose Prevention Society, Davidson found a home for the tiny townhouse at Chapel Arts, an arts space at 305 Dunlevy Ave. right across from Oppenheimer Park. No one will be living in the structure, but the plan is to use it as an artist’s studio and as a demonstration site for city councillors, non-profit organizations, builders, developers and others who might be interested in taking a look inside. “We really hope that the city can look at … [Read more...] about Tiny Townhouse Prototype Finds a Home in the Downtown Eastside
