Tokyo Games 100 days to go: State of play as the Olympics loom into view

· April 14, 2021 ·

The overriding question over the past year has simply been: how will this happen? Uncertainty still lingers over the monumental logistical effort needed to reschedule an Olympics, one that did not take place as planned for the first time since World War II as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Over a year since it was first confirmed the Games would be put back, the global health crisis is still wreaking havoc as countries battle COVID-19 with varying levels of success. For the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Japanese government, a more pertinent question may be: how could the Games not go ahead? Soon, more than 11,000 athletes plus their coaches, as well as throngs of media and officials from around 200 nations, will flock into a single city during a pandemic. As the Games come into view and the ceremonial lighting of the Olympic cauldron draws closer, the message has been pretty clear – one way or another, the show will go on. So, just where are we at and … [Read more...] about Tokyo Games 100 days to go: State of play as the Olympics loom into view

Meghan Markle’s Dad: Brits Aren’t Racist, Prince Harry ‘Snotty’

· March 9, 2021 ·

Meghan Markle’s father Thomas told UK television viewers Tuesday he did not think the royal family or the British public were racist before calling Prince Harry “snotty” and pointing to him dressing up as a Nazi. As Breitbart News reported , Meghan used her Sunday night U.S. television interview with Oprah Winfrey to allege the British royal family expressed concerns about the color of her son’s skin ahead of his birth. Meghan said when she was first pregnant with son Archie, there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.” The statement prompted Winfrey to incredulously ask “What?” Meghan Markle Claims Royal Palace Had ‘Concerns’ About How Dark Her Son’s Skin Might Be https://t.co/FEFnJVxyb1 — Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) March 8, 2021 “I have great respect for the Royals, and I don’t think the British royal family are racist at all. When Couples’ Personality Styles Clash

· April 14, 2021 ·

There are many relationship problems this post is not about, namely problems related to serious psychopathology, abuse, addiction , infidelity , or a basic lack of attraction . This post is about a common, ordinary type of couples' problem: the type that occurs between two good, functional people whose personality styles clash in some way. Different Does Not Mean Better or Worse Differences in styles of functioning play a role in many marital and couples problems ( Shapiro, 2020a; 2020b ). He is a morning person, and she is a night person; she wants more closeness, and he wants more autonomy; he is dramatic and expressive, while she is understated and reserved; one partner wants to discuss problems extensively, while the other wants to move on quickly, and so forth. Differences in styles of functioning, in and of themselves, are not problems. Couples become angry and unhappy when they misunderstand their differences to be disagreements about some objective issue … [Read more...] about When Couples’ Personality Styles Clash

Moderate Republicans Accuse Biden of Trying to Pass His Agenda

· April 14, 2021 ·

Partisan and proud. Photo: Alex Wong/Getty Images Moderate Republicans are accusing Joe Biden of secretly plotting to enact the policies he campaigned on. In interviews with Politico Wednesday, staffers for the “G-10” — a group of ten Senate Republicans with an ostensible appetite for compromise — claimed that the president’s avowed interest in bipartisanship is insincere. In their account, Biden’s negotiations with the G-10 over infrastructure are a mere formality; his true intention is to make Republicans an offer they can’t accept, then use their refusal as a pretense for passing his $2.25 trillion plan through budget reconciliation. The staffers’ complaints are sufficiently colorful (and, if one leans left, schadenfreude-inspiring) to quote at length: It starts with what they see as some hardwired media narratives they can’t shake: that Biden is a reasonable, deal-making moderate and that Republicans talk about compromise but really just want to obstruct. It’s a … [Read more...] about Moderate Republicans Accuse Biden of Trying to Pass His Agenda

Hurricane season ends historic as predicted by experts back in April

· November 30, 2020 ·

(CNN) Monday officially marks the final day of Atlantic hurricane season, and it has been one for the record books. 2020 has been undoubtedly a crazy year -- with the Covid-19 pandemic , murder hornets and some of the largest wildfires in recorded history. It seems understandable that hurricane season would also be memorable. This season was forecast to be a busy season. Two of the most well-known and respected entities that forecast their predictions for the upcoming hurricane season are Colorado State University (CSU) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). CSU's Tropical Meteorology Project team predicted an above-average Atlantic hurricane season on April 2. The team forecast 16 named storms, including eight hurricanes. "We were forecasting a well above-average season in April, June and July, and increased that forecast to an extremely active season in August," said Phil Klotzbach, a research scientist at the … [Read more...] about Hurricane season ends historic as predicted by experts back in April
