Da Nang taxis to install GPS systems Six taxi firms in the central city of Da Nang have agreed at a meeting with local authorities to install Global Positioning System (GPS) car tracking in all cabs from September to next June. More than 1,000 taxis will try out the devices hoping that they will make finding locations easier and help reduce accidents. According to the Department of Transport, 1,300 buses and 879 trucks have already installed GPS tracking equipment. Fuel price, excursion fee hikes counteract tourism promotion programs
VietNamNet Bridge – The announcement about the petrol price increase to VND25,000 per liter, plus the excursion fee increases at most of the tourist sites, have dealt a strong blow on travel firms which have been sparing every dong to stimulate the demand. Petrol price hike makes travel firms worried stiff Nguyen Cong Hoan, Deputy Director of Hanoi Redtours, said the transportation service providers – the partners of Hanoi Redtours – have not mentioned the service fee increases, but the travel firm still has to be ready for the new negotiations for new service fees. “Under the contract we signed with the partners, the service fees must not raise or reduce the service fees even if the petrol prices fluctuate. However, if the petrol price increases too sharply, the partners are likely to break the contracts to avoid losses,” Hoan said. Also according to Hoan, domestic tours and inbound tours would see the tour fees increase in one or two months, if the … [Read more...] about Fuel price, excursion fee hikes counteract tourism promotion programs

Mekong Delta tourism promotion discussed
A seminar was held in Can Tho city on April 26 to discuss ways to promote tourism in the Mekong Delta region, as part of Mekong Expo 2013’s framework. Participants at the event agreed that the region’s tourism potentials have yet been exploited adequately. Tourism products and service quality remain limited, while infrastructure serving the tourism sector is still poor. Meanwhile, human resources for the sector have failed to meet the sector’s demand - 4,000 workers are not enough to serve the 10 million plus visitors that travel to the region every year, they said. They suggested that localities in the region work together to upgrade their tourism infrastructure, while encouraging various economic sectors to invest in the industry. A long-term master plan for tourism development in each regional locality is also needed, they said. The localities ought to coordinate with each other in human resources training and tourism promotion, as well as increase their … [Read more...] about Mekong Delta tourism promotion discussed
