NEW DELHI: Shares of Bharti Airtel tanked 5 per cent in Tuesday's trade as parent Bharti Telecom was looking to raise $1 billion by selling shares in the mobile phone operator through a block deal at Rs 558 a unit, according to a term sheet of the planned sale seen by ET. The deal price was 6 per cent discount to Friday closing price of Rs 593.20. Markets were closed on Monday on account of Eid. On Tuesday, the stock fell 5.37 per cent to hit a low of Rs 561.10 on BSE. Airtel did not respond to ET’s emailed queries. A banker told ET that promoters planned to sell up to 2.75 per cent stake. The buyers are likely to include global investors such as Fidelity, Segantii Capital and Norges Bank as well as local funds such as HDFC Mutual Fund, SBI Mutual Fund and Birla Mutual Fund, said a person familiar with the matter.
