Denver will allow restaurants to operate at 100% capacity with distancing as state turns over COVID-19 control

· April 14, 2021 ·

Denver will let restaurants and gyms operate at full capacity — though social-distancing requirements will make that difficult for many — beginning Friday when the state turns over control of COVID-19 public health measures to local authorities. The city will move a step down to Level Blue and continue to follow the state’s color-coded dial for the next 30 days in conjunction with most other metro counties, including Adams, Jefferson, Boulder and Broomfield. Arapahoe County was at Level Blue and will remain there. The change to Level Blue will allow bars that don’t also serve food to reopen, at limited capacity, for the first time since June and will move last call for alcohol back to 2 a.m. Douglas County is the metro area’s holdout, with its elected leaders opting to eliminate all COVID-19 restrictions that had been dictated by the state’s dial come Friday. “We think that we need to slow down a little bit with just dismissing the dial altogether,” Bob McDonald, … [Read more...] about Denver will allow restaurants to operate at 100% capacity with distancing as state turns over COVID-19 control

Vacant lot in Tottenham site for new restaurant

· April 15, 2021 ·

A vacant lot in Tottenham will be the site of a new commercial building that will eventually become a restaurant. The lot is located at the southeast corner of Queen Street North and Wilson Street. It is currently fenced off and the property was attached to an historical residence. The lot is next door to Tottenham Paint and Paper, a building which dates back to the 1870’s. The Committee of the Whole discussed the new development during its March 29, meeting and is working on finalizing a site plan agreement. Concerns were raised by a property owner whose property is adjacent to the vacant lot that patrons at a new restaurant will use their property and lane way for parking during the operating hours of the business. They have had problems in the past, they said, with members of the public using their property as a parking lot. A building of the proposed size would normally require ten parking spaces. Since there will be no parking available on the site, the owner of the … [Read more...] about Vacant lot in Tottenham site for new restaurant

Tokyo Olympics May Be Cancelled If Situation Around Covid-19 Worsens – Report

· April 15, 2021 ·

Secretary-General of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party Toshihiro Nikai has said that the Tokyo Olympics may be canceled if the situation around the COVID-19 deteriorates, Kyodo News Agency reported on Thursday. "If it turns out that [holding the Olympics] is practically impossible, we will have nothing but to give up the idea," Nikai said, as quoted by the news agency. The Olympic Games, which are set to open in 100 days, on July 23, are supposed to be held over a two-week period in Japan's capital, and are to feature over 10,000 international athletes. The Olympic Games were postponed last year due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tokyo has reported over 126,000 COVID-19 cases, the highest in any other region in the country. Indian hospitals battle ‘chaotic’ surge as daily COVID-19 infections cross 200,000

· April 15, 2021 ·

NEW DELHI: Many Indians scrambled on Thursday (Apr 15) to secure beds in hospitals for relatives stricken with coronavirus as infections surged to a daily record, overwhelming medical facilities and drying up oxygen supplies. A massive second wave of infections is centred on the rich state of Maharashtra, which makes up a quarter of the tally, and is spreading wider as doctors and experts blame everything from official complacency to aggressive variants. The government has blamed a widespread failure to adhere to norms on physical distancing and the use of masks. "The situation is horrible," said Avinash Gawande, an official of a government hospital in the industrial city of Nagpur that was battling a flood of patients, as were hospitals in neighbouring Gujarat state and Delhi in the north. "We are a 900-bed hospital, but there are about 60 patients waiting and we don't have space for them." Maharashtra, home to the financial capital of Mumbai, began a lockdown at midnight … [Read more...] about Indian hospitals battle ‘chaotic’ surge as daily COVID-19 infections cross 200,000

France’s COVID-19 death toll set to pass 100,000 amid surge

· April 15, 2021 ·

PARIS: France's coronavirus death toll is expected to pass 100,000 on Thursday (Apr 15) after a year of hospital tensions, on-and-off lockdowns and personal loss that have left families nationwide grieving the pandemic’s unending, devastating toll. The country of 67 million will be the eighth in the world to reach the symbolic mark, and the third in Europe after the United Kingdom and Italy. The cumulative death toll since the start of the epidemic totaled 99,777 on Wednesday evening. In recent days, French health authorities have been reporting about 300 new daily deaths from COVID-19. Lionel Petitpas, president of the association “Victims of COVID-19”, told the Associated Press that the number of 100,000 deaths is “an important threshold". After months of people getting accustomed to the virus, the figure “is piercing a lot of minds. It is a figure we thought would never be reached”, he said. Petitpas, who lost his wife Joelle on Mar 29 last year from the virus, said … [Read more...] about France’s COVID-19 death toll set to pass 100,000 amid surge
