Piaggio bets big on e-commerce biz; plans to bring electric three-wheelers in the segment
NEW DELHI: Italian automobile manufacturer Piaggio plans to launch electric three-wheelers in the ongoing quarter to cater to the growing demand in the e-commerce business segment. “We will have three launches: cargo fixed battery electric vehicle, cargo swappable battery, and passenger fixed battery three-wheelers,” a top official of the company told ETAuto. Saju E S Nair, executive vice president, Piaggio Group, said, “Major growth is coming from the e-commerce segment, and it is highly visible. Apart from e-commerce, demand is coming from municipal corporations, government departments, FMCG and water bottling companies.” In terms of market share, “We are at 48% right now for this year, and we intend to defend it and even grow a little bit too, say, 50%. In the overall three-wheeler space, we are at 29%.
