In a directive on aviation security and safety issued Thursday, the ministry has decided to "strictly warn" the carrier for "letting multiple incidents threatening flight safety occur recently." It noted that in the past three months, Vietjet has had seven incidents, five with technical issues and two "subjective problems" with its employees. Saying that these incidents have affected service quality and passengers' confidence, the transport minister has tasked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) with stepping up inspections of the carrier's compliance with operational regulations, especially those related to the qualifications, certification and flight time of its crew and technicians. The VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company (VietJet Air) earned 5.7 trillion VND (256.5 million USD) in revenue during the first half this year, up 205 percent from the same period last year. The figures were released by the low-cost carrier at a conference reviewing its six-month operations on August 16 in Ho Chi Minh City. During the reviewed period, the airline transported more than four million passengers, significantly contributing to the record 26 percent increase in domestic aviation transportation compared with the same period last year. The carrier is currently operating a fleet of 26 Airbus A320 and A321 jets on 33 domestic and international routes to Thailand, Cambodia, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and China. VietJet Air gets $1,000 fine over bikini show on plane
Vietnam aviation authorities have imposed a VND20 million ($960) fined on private carrier VietJet Air (VJA) for organizing a bikini show on its flight on August 5, 2012. Nguyen Trong Thang, chief inspector of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV), told Tuoi Tre that he had signed the decision of administrative penalty for the budget airline. The decision came after the Wednesday meeting between Thang, representatives of relevant state aviation agencies, and VJA on the incident. After reviewing the show’s video clips which were posted on the Internet and listening to the explanation from VJA, CAAV representatives analyzed the wrong points in organizing such event on a flight to VJA representatives. VietJet Air staff suspended after destination change scandal
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has decided to suspend a number of VietJet Air staff who were involved in changing a flight's destination from Dalat to Cam Ranh. The incident occurred on June 19, and was widely seen as resulting from a lack of responsibility and communication among VietJet Air staff. The crew did not notice the route change until were informed by the Cam Ranh Air Traffic Control Tower. VietJet Air flight changed destination Lai Xuan Thanh, CAAV’s Director, said, “Even though the incident did not cause any serious damages, it did threaten aviation safety.” As a result, the CAAV decided to suspended captain Pavel Ondrej, deputy commander Amin Hassiri and chief stewardess Phan Thi Huong Trang for one month, beginning from the day they were put on temporary suspension, June 20.
