(Cinet)- The UK has for the first time in seven years become one of Viet Nam's top 10 tourism markets, with nearly 18,000 tourists coming here in January 2012, a year-on-year increase of 39.7 per cent, according to the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism(VNAT). At present, there are 4 direct flights per week from Vietnam to the UK and it is planed that there will be daily flights in 2015. VNAT said that various marketing campaigns will be launched to invite more British travel agencies to Vietnam in 2012. Over the past two years, many activities have been developed to promote Vietnam tourism in the UK, including advertising on taxi, travel magazines of the Association of British Travel Agents, UK National Geographic, especially on electronic boards at the Premier League’s 12 matches from October to December 2011. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on June 29 presented the Vietnam Tourism Award 2010 to 30 hotels, 20 travel agencies and 15 tourism service enterprises at a ceremony in Hanoi. This year awards went to ten big outbound tourism firms, including Saigontourist, Ben Thanh Tourist, Tan Dinh Tourist, Apex Vietnam, Exotissimo, Vietnam Tourism JS Company in Hanoi and HCM City, Hoa Binh Tourist, Vietravel and Huong Giang Tourism. Ten inbound travel firms also won recognition, including Vitours, Lua Viet, Viet Culture, Youth Tourism, and Hanoitourist. The organizing board also presented an award for the most dynamic and creative travel firm to Young Generation Tourism Company and Oriental Tourism and Trade Co., Ltd. Ten British Travel Firms Surveying Vietnam Tourism A delegation of ten UK’s leading travel firms and reporters from the Selling Haul tourist magazine arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on June 22 to start a survey on Vietnamese tourism. The survey lasts for six days and takes place in Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Danang central city, the ancient town of Hoi An, Vinh Long province and Ho Chi Minh City. During their stay, the delegation is expected to meet representatives from Vietnam Airlines, leading travel businesses of Vietnam and several five-star hotels to learn about tours and the quality of tourism products in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The delegation also plans to make a promotion campaign for Vietnamese destination in order to attract tourists from Britain and Europe when they return to their country. Vietnam tourism to grant labor cross-ASEAN work certificates
Tourism workers certificated by the Vietnam Tourism Certification Board (VTCB) will be able to work in any of the ten nations in the ASEAN community. The nine other countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand, and the Philippines. The ministers of tourism from all member countries made a commitment four years ago that would allow tourism workers, from 2015, to work interchangeably among the countries if they are certificated by an officially-appointed certification organization of any among the ten. For Vietnam, it is the VTCB. Hoang Thi Diep, deputy head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, told news website Saigon Times that ASEAN member countries have built a set of agreed standards for tourism professionals.
