A RECORD number of new cars were put out for sale in August, as manufacturers offloaded motors that would fail tough new CO2 tests. The WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) came into effect on September 1, forcing car makers to offer Brits massive savings and incentives on new motors last month. A record 94,094 vehicles were registered with the DVLA last month - a whopping 23 per cent more than that of the previous year. It is the highest amount readied for sale in August since the new number plate system came into effect in 1999. Prior to that, new car registrations only came out once a year as opposed to the current twice-annual release in March and September. The Volkswagen Group, which includes Audi, SEAT and Porsche, struggled to make their cars WLTP compliant.VW admitted that only half of its models meet the requirements, with some new car deliveries delayed up to February 2019 due to a bottleneck created by the new tests. Car of former TDP MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy’s son hits motorist
A motorist was severely injured after the four-wheeler of former TDP MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy’s son Bandaru Appalanaidu reportedly hit a two-wheeler from the back on the Beach Road here late on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when the TDP leader’s son and his friend were returning home from a party. According to reports, Suryadevara Mourya, son of a former police officer, was driving the car of Mr. Appalanaidu when their car hit the two-wheeler. The injured motorist was shifted to King George Hospital and his condition is said to be stable. Mr. Mourya left the spot immediately and surrendered before police who conducted a drunk-driving test on him. Horse and harness driver recover from serious car crash to claim big win
STACY SQUIRES/STUFF Canterbury horse trainers Peter Davis and Margo Nyhan were involved in a serious crash in February, while transporting five horses. They have recovered and one of the horses injured has returned to winning ways. In February, a car crash left Canterbury harness racing driver Pete Davis in hospital with serious injuries. Now he's driven a horse also injured that day to glory. Davis and his partner, horse trainer Margo Nyhan, were driving five horses to Rangiora in early February when their car and horse float collided with another car at the intersection of Newtons and Dawsons roads in Templeton, on the outskirts of Christchurch. At a Cup Week meeting in the city Friday, Davis was back behind the reins of Overzealous, affectionately known as Panda, when the pair pulled off a win to the cheers and jubilation of an adoring crowd.
